Hi group,

I am having a problem with a certain issue in breaking away

from AA. Hopefully you can break through my still brainwashed

noodle with some suggestions.

I feel so much better when I don't go to meetings. So, I

have cut way back. I need to leave totally. I must. It is

a harmful place for me and thanks to all of you that becomes

clearer everyday.

The issue is my sponsor. She is truly a sweet old gal. I am

very sure of that. She has never been forceful or demanding

with me. She has made suggestions, and at the time,

I was willing to follow them. But compared to the sponsor

horror stories I have heard, this woman is very gentle and

mild. I really do care about her and she has always been there

for me. She is a kind person.

About one month ago, when I stopped by to visit her on my way

home from work, I told her that I was exploring other recovery

options. Ones that I felt were right for me. She acted

pretty okay with that. I did not condemn AA to her, and I really

don't want to. She is perfectly happy there. It works for

her. She is just doing her " job " with me as she was taught,

and not very strictly at that.

I am meeting her for lunch on Saturday to celebrate a belated

one year anniversary in my honor. Shit, I am dreading this.

I plan on telling her that I no longer need her services. That

I won't " keep comin back " anymore. I just know that she is

not going to take this well. But I can't be phony with her

any longer. Just can't.

I guess I don't want to hurt her and I feel like I am going to.

I know that this is crazy because this is MY life that we're

talking about here. Why am I so worried about hurting her

when AA is hurting me?

Thanks

Sue

I assume you are dreading this because you believe that you and she

have a genuine friendship. Can't you be friends without her being your

sponsor?

Just wondering a few basic questions. What side effects could I

experience from Ashermans other than possible infertility? How does

endometriosis relate to this? If we decide we will not have more

children can the ashermans be left alone? I am wondering how a D & C

turns into this also. Have law suits ever been filed due to botched

D & C? How have they ended? Because I have had it for almost 2 years

does that make it more difficult to repair? I don't know if I can

handle another miscarriage and have been given the option to have my

tubes tied...why would this be recommended? Any advice is so

appreciated!!!

This makes me so angry. How can ANY doctor tell a patient his TSH was normal

when it is 6.5 - 7.!!!! There needs to be some lawsuits to get these idiots to

wake up. I would suspect he probably would not need some of the other meds he

was put on if he was treated by a competent doctor...oh wait, we don't have any

of those.

Sorry, this just rubbed me the wrong way.

My TSH was 6.5 once and my idiot doctor told me to take some extra synthroid every other day.  It was just barely out of range so it wasn't so bad.

This makes me so angry. How can ANY doctor tell a patient his TSH was normal when it is 6.5 - 7.!!!!  There needs to be some lawsuits to get these idiots to wake up.  I would suspect he probably would not need some of the other meds he was put on if he was treated by a competent doctor...oh wait, we don't have any of those.

My TSH jumped up and down from 3ish to 6.1 over the last 8 years (that I have

records for). The highs were always blamed on lab error since the TSH always

came down to " well within range " when I was retested - usually a year later. No

one paid serious attention till last year and the doc said that they should

probably look into it as it appeared that " I had willed myself into a

hypothyroid state " (I had been complaining of symptoms all along.)

I have always suspected that I have Hashi's and I now think it was ignored for a

decade or longer till my thyroid no longer works at all. I found an old lab that

showed TPO antibodies. They were extremely low but they were there. Why on earth

wouldn't a doc follow up on that????

Wait....what....did they seriously say you willed yourself into being hypo?

Yep. He really said that. He's a family friend so I'm sure it was meant as a

joke but I didn't find it very funny. I had been asking him to check my thyroid

for eight years and he kept saying there was nothing wrong with it. I had a big

goiter in my early 30s that went away before I started seeing him by my mid 30s

(I'm 50 now). He's been my PCP for 15 years. He knew my history of the goiter

(and the previous doc who wanted to remove my thyroid) but he said there were

lots of reasons for goiters and it didn't mean there was anything wrong with my

thyroid. All those years he palpated (right word?) it and said it wasn't swollen

and my labs were fine so I wasn't hypothyroid - I was just in peri-menopause. He

agreed we should do more testing but I never went back to see him. I went to see

a Naturopath. My experience with her was almost as bad. So here I am.

But don't you think it all this sounds like Hashi's? The last labs came back

with no antibodies so I still don't know for sure.

Because they aren't taught anything about hypothyroidism. All they are taught is

do a TSH and give T4. And they don't care to learn. After all they are DOCTORS

.....bow here or genuflect.... and they know everything.
