Guest guest
I loved it!!! Sounds like ny's first day also at school. The slow participation in circle time and he played with another boy AND had the fit when he got home. He did that for the first week, now he just comes in HUNGRY since he won't eat anything for breakfast. Anyone have good (FAST) breakfast ideas? He won't touch oatmeal or waffles and only eats a bit of a pancake. He likes egg and cheese. jen >here...Maybe we will go to the park and let him blow off some steam... > >I promise not to write these reports every single day. Otherwise I found that cereal bars, or poptarts are a fast and easy breakfast. Hope this helps Tina W.

Guest guest
LOl Sara--You can write em everyday and I'll read em. Makes me smile and think of Karson. I am so glad Mikey had a good day. Karson loves school too. Him and the other little boys imitate each other alot. I think it's great for Karson. He has never really been around children till he started his pre-K. He did have bad meltdowns tho when we would come home from school. I thought it was a stress release and tried ways to do the transition better. Nothing worked. It got to the point he was hitting and kicking his baby sister for no reason. The look of fear in her eyes was so scary. So, against my wishes, we put him on Risperdal. I kept my ass on my shoulders about medicating him tho. But actually since he has been on the risperdal, his moods did a 180. He does have meltdowns still, but not as bad and it seems easier now to calm him down. Also, he seems to communicate his needs better. I hope u have better luck transtioning Mikey afterschool, than we did w/ Karson coz it was pure hell. Amie Mikey's first day He did great!!! I was so anxious about getting there on time I got us there 30 minutes early! Ooops. That was OK tho, the teacher wanted us there early to go over a couple of things. I had written down our protocols for dealing with self injury and allergen exposure, and the teacher had typed them up and posted them next to the basic first aid & Heimlich maneuver posters. Wow! I had not expected that. She made some small changes and added one we hadn't talked about (I had asked how the school would respond) but they were all fine. He was excited about being at the school and went straight to his classroom. We chatted with the teacher and then the other kids came in and we tried to get Mikey to greet them - he was interested from afar but up close would not look at them. Then it was time for breakfast, and after he got sat down and was eating (with the teacher sitting behind him helping him stay in his seat) we said bye-bye and left. He was FINE. He tried to get up for a second but the teacher redirected his attention to his breakfast and he settled right back down. She said he did GREAT. He had a hard time sitting down at circle time (gee, what a surprise) but he was interested in what they were doing, in between whining. She said he watched the other kids a lot and was interested in what they were doing, although he did not want to join in what they were doing. That's fine, it will take him some time to get comfortable. Some things he just watched, and some things he used his teacher's hands to do. Good step. A few things he did join in and enjoyed - they played a shape-and-color-sorting game and he liked that a lot. He played with another little boy on the playground!!! He was in 's teacher's class last year and his name is also . The teacher told him they had the same names and he asked if he could play with Mikey. She said sure! He asked if Mikey talks and she said no. He said, " OK! " and ran right over. Mikey was chasing his shadow and just joined right in and they chased each other's shadows. Then went over to the balance beam and sat on it, and Mikey followed him and sat down near him!!! Then stood up on the balance beam and was walking down it, and Mikey stood up and followed him!!! This is just fantastic. =) I am SO glad we decided to send him. I really was not sure he would get much out of being around the other kids yet but obviously I underestimated him. She even got him to wear his backpack out to the car. We couldn't get it on him this morning. He was obviously glad to see us and wanted us to hold him and touch him. After he got in his car seat he held my hand and wouldn't let go until we were on the interstate. When we got home he walked in, ran down the hall flapping his hands, threw himself on the floor and had a fit for about 10 minutes. Stress release! He has been chewing on his shirt since we took his jacket off. He VERY rarely does that. And he just came up and asked to nurse - he has only nursed once in the last month - I am quite surprised as I thought he was weaned. So we are definitely seeing some stress/anxiety here...Maybe we will go to the park and let him blow off some steam... I promise not to write these reports every single day. -Sara.
