Hi Janie,

Please ignore the first post, not sure which key i pressed but it

disappeared. Welcome Back.

I am awaiting results of a thyroid profile (thats everything) this

week. A sympathetic doctor with a special interest in thryoid is

going to write to me with the results. They are long awaited !!! I am

scared to go up too quickly because of my hyper crash. That was so

frightening. I cant wait to get up to 2 grains because i associate

that dose with " happier times " . The menopause is another problem i

have to solve. I have asked the doctor for advice but thinking

logically i will probably need a hormone test right? I dont want to

throw myself into estrogen/progresterone treatment until i know which

one i need. or both??

I will post my results when i receive them, would appreciate the

expert opinions on this forum, Is the free T3 the most important

detail to look for? Boy do i have a lot to learn.

Thanks again

SheilaF

Hi SheilaF. Yes, it's the free T3 you want to have tested and watch.

T3 is the active thyroid hormone. It makes a difference in every part

of your body. If you are going by labs, your goal is to get the free

T3 towards the top of the range, if not slightly higher. That is

where most folks lose all their hypo symptoms. (Free before T3 means

that which is unbound and available).

I am nearing meno, too, and have decided to only be on natural

progesterone after reading Dr. Lee's book. I am also quit impressed

with the interaction between progesterone and thyroid! I only do 25

mg. a day, and so far, I am impressed!

I also take 325 mg. iron a day to prevent problems.

Thanks for the welcome back. We went to see my youngest son graduate

from the Univ. of Texas!!!

Janie,

I have a question about the interaction between progesterone and thyroid that

you

mention here.

When you started using progesterone, did you note that you needed less Armour

than

before or did you notice no differences? From the reading I " ve done on natural

progesterone, most references state that natural progesterone " optimizes "

thyroid.

Do you know what exactly this means? Do it mean it optimizes the gland or does

it

mean it optimizes the med one is taking? Or what? I guess what I'm concerned

about

is if there's any possibility of going hyper after starting progesterone cream

since it

" optimizes " thyroid.

Also, do you split that 25 mg/day into two doses or do you use it just once a

day? In

the AM or at bedtime?

Any insight on your, or anyone else's here, part would be appreciated much!

Thanks,

Janet

Don't hold me to this one, but I know that I read somewhere that progesterone

should probably be taken at bedtime because it does induse a more relaxed state,

eventually. I had forgotten about reading that until you asked these questions,

just don't know where I read it.

Hi ,

I have taken natural sublingual progesterone for many years, for PMS I have

it sent from Madison pharmacy. http://madisonpharmacy.com/index.html

It indeed makes you relaxed, or less aggitated, it can you sleepy with large

amounts. It also raises your temperature. It is the same hormone pregnant

woman are loaded with., so it can make you a bit hungrier too.

I know it makes your own thyroid gland work better. I don't know if it would

make the meds work better...I guess it would especially when you are taking

the armor glandular thyroid, instead of synthetic.

Yes, I know that when we were pregnant (a long time now for me, lol), we had

those wonderful rosy cheeks because of it. Is the sublingual that you order

prescription?

Hi Cris. Are you asking about progesterone or Armour? Because what

you had responded to was in reference to progesterone in a cream form

(or as I take it---in a lozenge from a compounding pharmacy). You

know, it's actually better to take almost ANYTHING subligually!! But

boy, would it be expensive. And don't worry---we are all still

learning! Oh, and yes, all Armour can be taken sublingually.

I believe she was telling me about the progesterone, sublingual, that she gets

from a particular pharmacy.
