Guest guest
Gwen, You are correct that the placenta attaches at one point in the uterus. Placenta accreta is the abnormal adherence to the uterine wall due to an underdeveloped (or thin) endometrial lining. And it attaches to the myometrium. It embeds too deeply so to speak. So, when the baby is delivered and the afterbirth comes out, sometimes surgery is required to "detach" the placenta from the uterus. I think you knew this, but I thought I'd be complete. Hope that helps...a little. PS I am having a hard time understanding placenta increta and percreta. I understand previa, but not these other two. Anyone have a good explanation for these other two? As for the "attachment" of the uterus. It is my understanding that a "normal" placenta attaches at only one spot. Perhaps acretia occurs when the placenta grows into the uterine wall not only at the "attachment" location but at other locations as well? Is this possible? Guest guest
my sis n law had her third baby years back , after two c sections. she wanted to deliver vaginally and did.. the placenta was attached to uterine wall very deep and no on e knew. they pulled hard to get it out and she was bleeding out of control. had ot do blood transfusion and hysterectemy.. almost died.. scary stuff.. the doc said could have been fro previous scars from c sections.. i know i am left with scars from my c section.. if i had ever gotten preg again and it lasted,, i would have just scheduled a c section to be safe.. even though can cause more scarring i knew i would not be ttc again.. does nto matter now,, but thought i would share.. janet
