Val, can I ask how much of K-dur you're taking? Do you just take 1 1500mg pill?

Is that enough to get your potassium levels up? I'm just trying to compare

notes. I've been taking 7500mg of KCL, slow release (or 3800mg of just the

potassium part). I test tomorrow morning to see where levels are at. This

amount is this only thing that has helped my heart pounding. I'm also on 1 tab

florinef.

I just got some from a pharmacy today called Apo-K.  They are 600mg SR.  Even though they are SR I thought I'd still spread out taking them at each meal.  I think I'll start with 3 a day and add more later, will still continue to use No Salt on my food along with actual salt.  The problem with the Apo-K is they are a bright orange and I don't want dyes, so I'll look for another one next time.

Leisa,

Did you doctor elaborate on why it is better not to give you potassium.

I can understand if your levels are ok but I am amazed at how much taking

potassium has helped my water retention and believe me it was bad. I take 40

mcg a day.

You take 40mcg..potassium or t3? My Dr just thinks it can disrupt the electrolyte system. I was low in pot and sodium and cloride...I do notcis my swelling goes down with adrenal aide that had aldosterone in it. I also noticed that when my ft3 level was really low( I didnt realize, as I was taking t3..but weaker strenght) my swelling was worse..SO, maybe low t3 and or low aldosterone both cause swelling too. maybe she just thinks potassium isnt the way to go. I tell you I am super confused about how to get the right amounts of sod/potas. I did buy a pill form electrolyte by Trace Minerals...seems good, I just have to TAKE it ( :

One 10 MEQ pill is 750mg of potassium chloride (380mg potassium and 370mg choloride). One 40 MEQ is equal to 3000mg KCL (or 1520mg potassium and 1480mg chloride).

I am taking 40meq of potassium a day.

Not a dumb question at all. I used to NOT take it everyday. Since I am taking

it everyday, I am getting much better results.

What you take is excreted in 30 min to an hour or maybe 1 1/2 hr.

I just got done talking to my brother. Anyway, he has a medical degree. He told me that in school they used dogs to do surgery on and then they killed the dogs by injecting KCL right into the heart muscle to stop it. I'm taking 6700mg which is about 3400mg potassium and he thought that was alot. I just tested yesterday so we'll see. If potassium is secreted out of the body fast, even with SR, I don't understand how testing will help much?

Testing helps as it si the kidneys that do the excretion and if yo get

to the poitn of takingmore than theyCAN excrete first you could be

overworking your kidneys adn if thye cannto excrete it fast enough it

WILL go up in the blood and become dangerous.
