Guest guest
Hi friends, Jody is totally correct, any procedure that breaks our best protective barrier is considered invasive and carries risks. Here are my thoughts on why the Percutaneous Achilles Tenotomy is with the least risks and why it is considered part of the non- surgical procedure. 1) any open release is much harder on the tissues then a carefull poke and cut of the achilles 2) an open procedure takes longer therefore the tissues are dissrupted longer. Also things are taken apart and put back together rather than just taking apart and healing on its own. 3) the healing time is longer and there are forign bodies left in the tissues ie. sutures and sometimes pins and4) This is a biggy, baby has to have a general Anesthesia and a caudal and/or narcotics for pain control. I have seen very little complications with the big surgeries and the pain control and the surgical procedures are very good but this may just help to explain the reasoning better.
