The LID is to be done for 2 weeks PRIOR to receiving the RAI dose so that thyroid cells are 'starved' for iodine and will readily take up the radioactive iodine. There is no point in starting the LID now if you already had your dose on Thursday. Marilyn (TT 1994, papillary with a follicular variant and lung metastases. Positive scans in 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998. 435mCi's RAI. Scans negative in 1999, 2000, 2002 -- the last one using Thyrogen).
Guest guest
- Hi, I had the 29 mci on Thursd. Feel fine now, the WBS is scheduled for Sunday 18th Do you think I need to do the LID? If I'm understanding the process correctly, I would think I have enough RAI to light up any thyroid cells remaining, Oh, and I start taking the synthroid tomorrow finally and at last, six weeks to the day since my TT. I am so excited about that little bottle of pills. All the best Hanna PT 5/02 TT6/02 29mci 8/
Guest guest
Oh good, I'm glad I misunderstood your post! You should be able to go off the LID now. Virtually 98+% of uptake occurs in the first 24-48 hours. Marilyn > > > - Hi, I had the 29 mci on Thursd. Guest guest
No No, I kept it faithfully for ten days before the RAI, and two days afterwards, my question is whether to keep on with it till next Sunday Re: LID after 29mci dose > > > - Hi, I had the 29 mci on Thursd. Guest guest
Hi, Hanna - I took the day off, but now I'm back. I've read ahead, so I know that Marilyn answered your question, and I'm guessing you've already had some wonderful, iodine laden meal :-) (For what it's worth, I understood that you had been on the LID before your treatment :-) - NYC hainsof wrote: > - Hi, I had the 29 mci on Thursd. I think we all understand that excitement; many of us have brought our pills along for our RAI treatment (if we're going to be hospitalized), clutching that one little pill wrapped in aluminum foil, until the day has arrived that we can start taking them again. I REALLY hate to put a damper on your excitement, but I just wanted to remind you not to expect an immediate reaction to the T4; it will be at least a week before you begin to notice anything, and probably 6 weeks before its full impact is felt. And then you get to have your TSH tested with that little butterfly needle, and probably have your dosage increased, until 6 weeks later .... etc. But you're on your way, and that's what counts :-) - NYC
Guest guest
Hi Hanna, My TT was 10 days ago and I'm just waking from the nightmare. It included the great vein hunt and you would think those seekers would have known about the butterflies. Is it correct that they can also use a butterfly for a blood draw? -- Healing and thanks to all listmembers, Munira, CHILDHOOD RADIATION from face to chest 3/15/02 PET SCAN neg for breast cancer mets - showed thyroid 5/31/02 ULTRASOUND - 10mmX9mmX7mm left nodule 6/7/02 ULTRASOUND FNA pap? 8/2/02 TT oh no, don't ask me about this!!! :-) Reply-To: Thyca Date: Sat, 10 Aug 2002 23:26:01 -0400 To: Thyca Subject: Re: LID after 29mci dose Hanna - > ... Guest guest
Munira, They use butterflies for all of my blood draws, each month. Ask for 'em!
