Guest guest
Hi All: Well, saw Dr. Valle today for my post-surgery follow-up and he was quite " chatty " today so I'll share what we discussed. First, about me personally he said that my scar tissue was " stubborn " and he had a bit of difficulty removing it, but that in the end he was quite pleased with the result and except for a little bit of scarring surrounding the opening to my left tube (which is the tube that is scarred at the other end anyway) he is confident he cleared everything out. He performed a quick pelvic exam and said everything seemed fine. He wants me to call him on CD1 (which should be early next week as I finish the Provera tomorrow) and we will schedule an HSG for a day or two after my period ends. He said that my period will really be " the best indicator " of how the surgery went. The longer and heavier the period the better. (but we knew that didn't we!?) Assuming my period is long and heavy (GOD I hope so!!) he will do the HSG just to " confirm " that my uterine cavity is in good shape and assuming all looks good we will have the " green light " to TTC. If my period is very short and spotty then he will do the HSG to look for any reformation of scar tissue and if there is none then it will be clear that I have a lining issue to deal with going forward. I asked about whether we should consider IVF due to the risk of scar tissue reformation going forward and he said absolutely not necessary. He firmly believes that any scar tissue that is going to reform WILL have reformed by now and will be clearly visible on the HSG. If the HSG shows a " clear " uterus without any scar tissue reformation then he feels I will ALWAYS remain open and clear UNLESS there is some new injury, infection or other trauma to the uterus. So that is good news. I asked him about the " one tube " issue and he did not seem at all concerned and said there was no reason to try IVF because of the tube alone. I asked if he would do an ultrasound to assess my endometrial measurement mid-point in my next cycle and he said no. He really does not feel that endometrial measurment is all that important. He referred over and over again to the most important factor being the condition of the uterine cavity. He feels strongly that if I have a " good " period and my uterine cavity looks good we should go ahead and TTC and not worry about exact endometrial measurements at all. Let's see, what else? He did bring up this group and mentioned that he seemed to be getting a lot of referral from the group which he thanked us for. He mentioned (not by name but as " a woman from the East Coast, I think it was Virginia) and said he felt badly because she had called and asked for help and that he had to tell her that he really could not help her until she was actually diagnosed with Ashermans. He said something to the effect of " I am not the doctor for diagnosing such things, that is up to the woman's local doctor to do. I am the one for treating it once it has already been diagnosed. " So , he felt bad about " turning you away " but said that diagnosing over the phone or " at a distance " really made him uncomfortable and that he would be happy to help you once you have some HSG films from your local doctor.... He brought up both Ann and Amy A. and mentioned how happy he was to hear that Ann had had her baby and that Amy was pregnant and doing well. I mentioned that Amy had been very sick with morning sickness lately and he said " GOOD! That's a good sign!! " with a big smile. So, that's about it. I am hoping and praying and crossing finger and toes and even my eyes for a nice looooong and heavy bleed starting early next week and lasting FOREVER! (Ok, not really forever but a good 4 or 5 days would be MARVELOUS!) Followed by an " all clear " HSG and finally the GREEN LIGHT!!! Guest guest
Gwen- It sounds like your visit with Dr. Valle went very well. I wonder why many doctors are not overly concerned with the lining. I know my doctors weren't either. Both my OBGyn and Re were more concerned with my period and the results of my HSG's. Things sound like they're going great and I hope that you have a good flow next week. Hopefully you'll be TTC in just a few weeks and at worst in a few months. Atleast there's light at the end of the tunnel. Thank you for sharing your good news. In your last posting to me you said that you were told that you are going to have 2 children. Hold on to that hope. Last summer when I took a trip to Maine I had my palm read by someone who is known to be pretty accurate. A few friends from work went to see her and told me about her. Well...I was told that I was going to have 4 children (2 girls and 2 boys). I wonder if this included my miscarriages. I feel sorry I didn't ask her about it. She saw me and my husband attending our children's weddings at an older age. I did not want to tell this palm reader too much because I wanted to hear what she had to say. Alot of things she mentioned made sense. We will probably go up to Maine in late June so I hope this palm reader will be there.
