Guest guest
<snip> I have 2 computers and 2 cats...the Loudie (Waa) > who is well behaved but waas all the time and the big maine-coonish quiet squeaker (Aerr > Aerr) who trundles his huge self around everywhere and knocks things over just to get > attention. (He's a mischievous brat but I love him anyway...that's how it is with cats!) I just read your description of Aerr Aerr, and he could be my young cat, Simon. Simon has even fluffier hair than a Maine Coon normally does, but the same lynx-tufts on the ears and the little squeaky voice. One of his nicknames is Chicken Man, because of his silly little voice--it just doesn't sound right, coming out of a 20-lb. cat. I played Waa's waa, and it got the attention of both Simon and Baby Strange; I had to quit before they started fighting. Makes me wonder what Waa was saying... I haven't been posting anywhere for the last few days; my old cat, Shringie, died over the weekend from kidney failure. He had been getting skinnier for a long time, and it turned out to be hyperthyroidism, which is treatable. It wrecked his kidneys, though, having gone undiagnosed for too long. Though I still have three other cats, he was the one I was closest to--more human than feline, really. He was a basket case when I adopted him 12 years ago, having been mistreated by a previous owner, and I wasn't doing so well myself. It took six or seven years for him to finally warm up to me, and the last four years were really wonderful--it was great seeing him turn into a happy cat. I keep expecting him to come into the office and demand (in his half-Siamese yowl) to be let up into my lap so he can sit and purrrrr... . > > [...] > > >One time some Jehovah's Witnesses came to my door and Herky hissed and > >growled at them. I haven't had a pet at all in years but have fond memories of both cats and dogs. My last cat, Hawkins, was happiest with a big Puerto Rican lizzard in his mouth flapping around. My last dog, Todd, a golden retriever, was happiest swimming through heavy surf to fetch his beloved tennis ball. Just a shame they don't live longer. As much as I love my " kids " , I know eventually I'll have to deal with losing each of them. I know people who have decided not to have pets again because of that--they've decided that it's just too hard to take. Though I really do wish they lived longer, in a way the shortness of their lives makes me appreciate them more. If animals really are here for a reason, I think it's to teach us about how short time is, and how important it is to both love and be loved. Animal lives are short--but so are human lives, too. It's sunny here today, and if Shringie were here he'd be splayed out in the sun on my office floor while I work at the computer. I have a photo of him doing just that, in fact. Though I haven't had a working camera in a couple of years, I was a good cat mom and took lots of pictures while I did... Cheers, .
Guest guest
Hi ; I only have two and kids they are. There's Mr Lynx. He is a crossbreed of something and Maine Coon Cat. He's 18 pounds when he's trim. This being winter he's probably close to 20. He has almost a four foot reach, which means he owns anything within a foot of the edge of the table, while still standing on the floor. Broke him of that when he was young so it's no longer a problem. He's 12 years old this next spring. He's always been an outdoor cat and I didn't even have a cat box for him till two years ago. Now when it's really cold he stays in. He has all the appearance of a coon cat except he's long haired. He and I have rituals that must be observed and he won't allow me to forget. When it's his lap time he comes up and taps me on the pants leg. If I try to ignore him he gives me a couple of claws lightly on the leg. I only ignored him once beyond that! Then there's Little Bit, pure white, short haired, green eyes that were bright blue when he was a kitten. His hearing is OK. Mr Lynx meow is a whisper, you can hear Little Bit in the next county. He's laying on my feet now. It's his favorite spot. Rose wants to take Little Bit and he really is her cat. She used a broom to dig him out from under her car at The Filling Station when he was about 5 weeks old. All of our animals except Ms Fitz, a female who is Mr Lynx grandmother, we've got as strays. Well Tuffy, Mr Lynx father and Mr Lynx weren't exactly strays but all the rest have been. They know a sucker when they see one and neither Rose nor I can resist. They provide a lot for just food, water and a little attention. I spoil them rotten. I just got through running turkey drumstick meat through the food processor for them. That's why they're both zonked out. I just moved one foot and Little Bit didn't even open an eye. He's two. I'm going to hate seeing Mr Lynx go, but he's lucky to have survived this long. He Beat Leukemia and has had radical urinary tract reconstruction surgery. His urinary set up is now like a female. At first he was one confused tomcat whenever he'd try to mark something, but after a time he figured it out. I think Little Bit is keeping him young. They get to roaring through the house and it sounds like a herd of elephants. I've just got time for a nap before Rose gets here so I better go.
