NO. When you take cortisol containing meds it changes your ACTH to the

rythym of the replacement you are taking. It does nto hsow the same as

your own hormones on blood testing. The variability is changed by dose

timing and impossible ot predict. Some people's dose may peak in 1 hour

some may peak in 2 hours, some may not have peaks but a steady trickle,

all due to digestion and how the body processes the meds. I suppose thye

could get a good idea if they tested hourly for 24 hours, but I ahve not

heard of that being done. I am not sure but a 24hour urine cortiosl

MIGHT be useful while on meds though that would show only what is

metabolized not how or when.

Val - I think your the only one around lately. I see what you mean about when

the dose peaks in each individual and declines scewing the tests, but since I

didn't take cortisol the morning of my 8am saliva test, woulldn't it show how

much cortisol I'm able to produce on my own? I did take 5mg of HC 10 hrs. prior

to the test before going to bed so I wasn't off it for too long and it has a

4hr. maximum effect.

No because what you took the day before affects your ACTH the next AM.When oyur

ACTH is supressed even a bit by cortiosl your adrenals are not getting the

message to make cortiosl. This is how you rest your adrneals to allow them to

rebuild.

Adrenal reserves from what VERY little info I can find amounts ot

cortisol that is bound in the blood. It doesn;t show on cortisol blood

t4ests as thta ois FREE cortisol nor saliva tests as it is inthe blood

not tissues.

I would suggest you go to Health & hormones list and talk to Pat who

seems to think you CAN accurately test cortiosl on HC. I do not believe

it, an have yet to see any way to interpret the test that makes any

sense. But there is that option.
