Guest guest
Hi , Welcome to the group. What has your ped said about him barely rolling at 7 months? It could be tight neck muscles. I'm not a medical expert, but I can help a little. To check for range of motion: take one of his favorite toys and hold it in front of him. try to get him to follow it with his eyes and head. take it up down and side to side around his head. make it so he has to turn his head and nod it up and down. tort kids will be able to turn farther on the non tort side. babies should have 180+ degrees of motion - ie they should be able to look slightly beyond the shoulder (our pt told us this). babies with tort can have a weak neck and upper body from all of the tightness. the best thing to do is work on releasing the tightness and strengthening the mucscle. here is a link to some tips in the files section Torticollis Stretching.doc Stretching & Strengthening Tips I would encourage a lot of tummy time. If he doesn't like it he may roll mroe to get out of it mom to na DOC Grad TORT resolved cartersdoc <mamagill@...> wrote: Hi, my son has recently been diagnosed with Plagio and we are waiting to hear from insurance before we are able to cast him. My question is this, he is 7 months old and barely ever rolls over though he sits up and is shy of crawling. He probably dosn't even roll twice a week. Do you think his neck tightness has anything to do with this? I've forgotten to ask the doctors. Thanks. For more plagio info
Guest guest
Hi My daughter was really uninterested in rolling, and only started rolling at 8 months (about 2 months after all her friends) She just lay there like a sausage!! She started crawling very soon after though at 9 months, and is now cruising around with the best of them and standing alone at 10 months. She kind of got it all at once. She's got plagio (very little left to correct though) and did have some difficulty looking over one shoulder or twisting one way, though tort was never tested formally. That's not to say you shouldn't get it checked out- there can be links betweeen tort and developmental delay, but just to point out that children can differ enormously in when they do things, but yet be just fine in the end. It can't hurt to get it checked out, though, and I also did stretching exercises, which may have helped. Good luck with it all Hannah (mum to Lucia, London, UK) Plagio, Cranio helmet, 4th July '04 > > Hi, my son has recently been diagnosed with Plagio and we are > waiting to hear from insurance before we are able to cast him. Guest guest
he has slight muscle tightness so he does have a form of tort but nothing severe at all. You cannot notice the tort unless you look at pic's and even barly in the pic's can you tell. >From: Filyaw <monicash@...> >Reply-Plagiocephaly >Plagiocephaly >Subject: Re: neck tightness and not rolling connection? >Date: Mon, 11 Oct 2004 10:00:51 -0700 (PDT) > >Hi , >Welcome to the group. Guest guest
It's amazing that what i thought was one small thing that i pointed out to his ped's at a wellbaby visit has turned into so much! I never imagined that there was so much related to plagio and i wish i'd have know everything before any of this came about! It starts to get overwelming. I feel plagio has become my life for the time being! Does anyone else feel the same? >From: " hannah_farrimond " <hannah_farrimond@...> >Reply-Plagiocephaly >Plagiocephaly >Subject: Re: neck tightness and not rolling connection? >Date: Mon, 11 Oct 2004 17:11:32 -0000 > > >Hi > >My daughter was really uninterested in rolling, and only started >rolling at 8 months (about 2 months after all her friends) She just >lay there like a sausage!! Guest guest
oh I forgot to add. tort babies cheat with the follow the toy. they turn their whole body in the direction of the toy not just their heads - I learned this from first hand experience. na liked to cheat but PT taught me how to catch it and then refocus her to stop it. mom to nahannah_farrimond <hannah_farrimond@...> wrote: Hi My daughter was really uninterested in rolling, and only started rolling at 8 months (about 2 months after all her friends) She just lay there like a sausage!!
