Guest guest
Hey there! We saw Dr. Colyer at St. Lukes Craniofacial clinic...he's a plastic surgeon. He was recommended by someone on this site and we were able to get in relatively quickly (about a week) which was a big bonus. His number is 816 932 2389 and he was great. We actually have an appt tomorrow to check his band. We got our Starband at Hanger in Overland Park with Thom. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Tricia Kansas City doctors; plagio over 1 year old My aunt is seeking help for her grand baby, and my cousin. He was givin a MRI to rule out any harmful medical issues, and they said to reposition him. They have done so, but now he's a year old. His head is still mis-shapped, and they (family) now want to seek treatment such as a helmet. So far they have gone by what their regular doctor has said, and not seen a specialist. Who, and where should I refer her too? A little over 2 years ago I turned to this site, and recieved wonderful support for my own child who wore a star band. Guest guest
Thanks for taking the time to reply Angie! We also went to see ette for Dakota's STAR band, and I did refer my aunt to her also. She's waiting for a call back, but they said it would be tomorrow. As a side note ette was awsome, and went way out of her way to find a way glasses could be worn with the helmet. When Dakota first saw a dr it was Dr. Witt with KU, and Dr. Singhal gave us the graduation orders. I know his wait was over 3 months when we saw him, and I am afraid this baby needs to get into a dr ASAP. Amie
Guest guest
It took us from age 6 months until almost 9 months to see him. I see someone suggested Dr. Coyler. She could always call both offices and see who has the fastest opening. Good luck and please keep us posted. Guest guest
Thanks for those numbers! I had a horrible experience with the Leawood office, and I don't feel comfortable refering anyone to them. Maybe that was just me? Do you know if Rehab designs of America is still in KC, and making DOC bands? I think they were the only other ones? Amie
Guest guest
Thanks Tricia! Do you know if they except the MO Medicaid? Not sure if you will see this tonight, or not. In the morning I will call, and see. They definatly need a dr with a short waiting list, and I have a feeling grandma will pay out of pocket even if he doesn't take the insurance. Thanks, again! Guest guest
no Hanger bought them. So no more Doc bands in Kansas City. If you dont feel comfortable there then i would definitely go for ette. We still go and say hi to her every few months. Jenna graduated from her band January 2003. Please keep us posted. Guest guest
Hey Amie, I don't know if they take MO Medicaid but they were all VERY helpful and understanding at the office so I am sure they can help with any questions. May I ask what your situation was at the Leawood Hanger? Did you have a problem with anyone in particular? Tricia Re: Kansas City doctors; plagio over 1 year old Thanks Tricia! Guest guest
I think I just caught the Leawood Hanger at a bad time.. Walking in there I had no idea what to expect, and no one wanted to answer any questions. Tom was very quiet, wouldn't answer my questions, and wouldn't offer any other info during the casting. So, we left, and waited on the helmet. When it came time to pick it up everyone was in a rush, and I watched Tom lecture his secratary for scheduling us so late-he was not happy! Yet had she not scheduled us that day we would have had to wait untill he came back from a 1-2 week vacation (I don't remember how long), so he wasn't happy. That made me feel like a burden, but we didn't want to lose that precious time. He rushed through fitting/adjusting it to Dakota's head, and didn't listen to my complaints. Told me that what I saw was normal, calm down, and we all would adjust. Sent us on our way, and he left for vacation! Dakota's helmet was not correctly fitting, I knew it, and there was nothing I could do. It shifted to cover his ears, dropped to cover his eyes, and his red marks were very tender. We waited for his return, and waited for our appointment. He was once again not very friendly, and not wanting to listen to my concerns. Once again we left with a helmet that wasn't fitting right, and that was it for me. I contacted Dr. Witt's nurse, and she said to bring Dakota in. Turns out I was right, and the helmet was not a good fit. Lucky for me ette happened to be there for his clinic, and set me up an appointment right away. She quickly re-cast his head, sent the helmet back, etc. to find an answer. Turns out the helemt was 'mis- manufactured', and no adjusting would have made it fit right. We never went back to see Tom, and made the 45 min drive instead. I will admit that I am very pick about the care we recieve, and I spend a lot of time meeting doctors just to find one I'm comfortable with. Can't be too careful when it's involving your health, and I figure why not take advantage of our wonderful health insurace while we have it? Thanks for listening to me ramble! Guest guest
Sorry for that bad experience. I am so glad ette was there to help!! I have met Tom at Childrens mercy but he never had anything to do with Jenna's banding. ette handled all of that. I dont think you were picky at all. You were taking care of your son and findind the correct treatment that he deserves. I am glad you found it!!
