Hi. I had a few questions that I was wondering if someone could

answer for me. My daughter is getting her helmet on friday. will

wearing the helmet affect any of her hair from growing? How about

taking baths and washing her hair? Can I put the helmet back on her

after her bath? Her hair dries really fast. Thanks... shari

Hi Shari,

I'm not sure what type of helmet it is, but most are worn 23 hrs a

day. The hour gives you time to wash the helmet and while it's

drying, you can give her a bath. You have to wait until both the

helmet and her hair are completely dry. I have used a fan or the

sun to speed up the helmet drying if I was in a rush, but it does

dry pretty fast. It should not affect her hair growth either. If

you look at my daughter's progress pics (photos/before and

after/DOCband/Hannah B) you can see how well her hair grew despite

her wearing 3 helmets over the course of a year! Good luck on

Friday.

Hi Shari

Welcome to the group. In our experience the helmet did not prevent

hair from growing. My son's break was in the evening during dinner

and then bath. It was back on right after his head was completely

dry. Good luck and please let us know how it goes.

Hi ,

You should call your ortho and let her know what's going on. Let us

know what she says.

My son has had a starband for almost one week and it seems looser now than the first few days. The ortho told us this would happen when my son was first fitted with it. I assume every case is a little different, but he said it would become more wobbly as the week progressed before we see him again (this Friday). What he described would happen has pretty much happened.
