Guest guest
Hi Anja - I too have been diagnosed with dermatitis on the vulva , but haven't been very successful with cortizone creams - they increase the burn. THat may be because I also had a yeast infection the whole time I was using the external creams, so I guess I will soon see what, if anything, the application of the cortizone will do. I have read that cortizone(steroid) application can thin the skin dramatically if used for a long period of time. I would certainly try to find out if that is the case, as you seem to have been on this for a while. I'm interested to know how much less pain you have from when you started. Are you 80% better? It's interesting that you only used cortizone - as my doc wants to combine it with estrogen creams. Good luck Dusty P.S. I am relatively new to list, what is VIN -----Original Message-----From: anja risovic Sent: Sunday, April 20, 2003 10:57 PMTo: vulvarDisorders Subject: update Hi I am writing to you guys to let you know about what has happened to me over the last 7 months time. I have been online all the time but I posted only maybe 2-3 times. Anyway, I am in Sydney and I saw Dr Bradford 7 months ago. She diagnosed me with dermatitis and pelvic muscle disfynction. She also warned me that sometimes even the dermatitis gets under control the pain can still stay around and that is because prolonged pain can cause muscle disfynction or neuropathy. I had white staff on some parts of my vulva as well as little cuts specially around 6 o'clock area. i also have sore anus that was bleeding out of a cut after using toilet paper. Dr Bradfor put me on Hydrocortisone ointmet 1% and after 6-7 months that white stuff is gone and paper like cuts are gone too. Now, prior to seeing her I went and saw a reputable Dr in this area who suggested I had VIN2 and wanted to do laser to get rid off it. I went and saw Dr Bradford and she got rid of this VIN for me without using any surgeries. She told me straight away that VIN is not precancerous change. The only precancerous changes are VIN3. Anything less that VIN 3 is normally dermatological problem. Thank God I didn not listen to that other doctor. Now 7 months later here I am better, but still with pain. I saw Dr Bradfor last Tuesday and because I have a crapy back she wants me to continue seeing a chiropractor that has already helped alot with my back. I forgot to say this that along with vv I also have pelvic pain. My pelvic pain has eased as well but it comes and goes. Dr Bradford thinks that dermatological problem is now all gone but at my last examination she discovered after touching a bone(pelvic bone) from the inside (vaginal way) that it is sore and left side more than right side. That is why she thinks my pain was so hard to work out because she thinks that my pelvic bone might play a part in it. I had a fall when I was 12 and one childbirth. But childbirth was only last year and I already have 11 year history of this. I think I would like to ask ladies who have had kids about this. Do your vulvas look dofferent in color to what they did before you had your babies? My vulva somehow looks uneven in color and I know that some changes were definetely noticable after I had my son. But I am wondering are all of them from child birth or there is some dermatitis still left there? Those uneven bits are sore. They kind of look deseased. Dr Bradford told me that that is normal after childbirth. She wants me to continue seeing my chiropractor and slow down with hidrocortisone ointment if I wish to use it longer. She does not think I need it on a daily basis anymore. She wants to review me again in 2 months time. I am not sure now how often I should be using that ointment. I feel as if there is bit of dermatological issue happening there still. Any thoughts or clues are welcome. Sorry for being so long and maybe bit confusing... Guest guest
Try Protoptic. It works very well and you can use it a long time without your skin thinning.
Guest guest
Your right Dusty A messed up lumbo-sacral-pelvic complex can set into motion a series of dominos that fall one right after another and can produce a variety of pain and dysfunction that can cause / or contribute to among other things..vulvar pain and most all the assorted disorders that go along with it. There are several relatively new minimally invassive treatments for pain but they do not correct the cause. Still, a little pain relief can be a Godsend. The techique is called Radio Frequency Ablation. or RFA for short. Long wire like needles are placed into the area of the damaged / preasured nerve and radio frequency waves are then fed through the wires and they deaden the nerves. One of my patients who is an MD with a herniated disk finally after almost a year of dealing with this decided to have the RFA. He is happy with the outcome although he is not completly painfree. Most of all he is glad he did not have to have surgery as the next step. He may need it in the future but for now he is happy. Bottom line ( no pun intended) try everything before surgery and find a Manual Therapist who is EXPERT in Muscle Energy Technique and Strain Counter Strain. K. In the early days, I'd get such awful groin pain and pain in the abdominal/pelvic area that I'd go to the gyn thinking something awful was wrong with my uterus or ovaries. They would look at me like I was crazy, as all my girl parts were healthy and functional. It wasn't until I was 29 that some doc figured out I needed an xray of the spine and once that revealed the damage there, I had an explanation for all that pain. It also pulses in the buttocks and down the legs, burns the bottom of my feet and often crosses over the hip into the groin and then down into the inner thigh. From experience I can tell you that Vioxx helped a lot with the bone pain, but then I developed (with age) high blood pressure and the Vioxx aggravated the pressure so I had to stop it.Another way I was able to control the pain was aqua therapy where I exercised in a warm pool 3 x a week for about an hour each time. The exercise program helped to develop firmer buttocks/leg and stomach muscles which helped to support the low back and thereby reduced the pain - by quite a bit. I was not then and am not now interested in the spinal fusion they wanted to do, but have heard that there is a new kind of surgery for low back which is minimally invasive. Is Tom on this list --- maybe he can enlighten us?Don't give up searching for the "cure". It will get better - you will endure and you will find ways around this problem.Dusty -----Original Message----- From: anja risovic Sent: Wednesday, June 25, 2003 9:41 AM To: vulvarDisorders Subject: update Hi I had a regular visit to my vulva doctor and she now thinks that my pain is mostrly caused by crapy bones of mine. That of course can not be ever corrected 100 percent meaning I will always have this vulvar pain to put up with to a certain extent. This really depresses me and I am kind of trying to come into terms with it. I had a fall when I was 12 on my lower back that did not caused serious injury but it did hust my tailbone and from then on I would experience occassional pain in the area. propably also bad posture while at school and work for years have contributed to it. Now I feel lots of muscle spasm that is just not funny, and sometimes because of that I think I got some muscle desease(which I don't but I just get paranoid with all this). I also get (only lately) kind of pain around my pelvic bones and hip. It is all I suppose connected down there and I m just wondering if muscles alone can caused such a pain. Guest guest
HI Anja, Yes, Muscle Energy is the treatment of choice. The pelvic floor and hip muscles need to have the muscle spindles re-calibrated so to speak. THe pain from the muscles alone is very annoying and the nerves in the spine may not even be involved. Muscles can cause pain. When they hurt long enough and start to pull on the bones, pretty soon the bones get out of normal possition. NO manipulations will get them to stay in place. TKOPT www.tomocklerpt.com anja risovic wrote: Hi Tom I had all these xrays as well as CTI and MRI and nothing that serous comes up on them except for some facet joint arthritis(which I think almost everyone has), Tyrov cyst on S1 and some transitional changes on L5. All this is nothing serious and there is no damage to my spine. However my chiro as well as my specialist think that my pelvic is out of alignment. I also do have tenderness in lumbo-sacral area. These techniques that you mention I don't think it would suit me becuase I do not really have any nerve damages, however my chiro told me that even if nerves do not appear to be crushed or pinched because of the problem in the bones that can still iritate the nerve. Why a specialist in muscle energy would be of benefit here? Are there any effective ways of correcting the bones problem or is it pretty much incurable thing? Guest guest
Tom Where did you study your degree in therapies since I am having a problem finding a therapist who does it here in Oz. Maybe I can do it by contacting the institution. Thanks Anja Re: update Your right Dusty A messed up lumbo-sacral-pelvic complex can set into motion a series of dominos that fall one right after another and can produce a variety of pain and dysfunction that can cause / or contribute to among other things..vulvar pain and most all the assorted disorders that go along with it. Guest guest
Not a problem Anja, Much of my early Muscle Energy and Counterstrain was with The Upledger Foundation. Should be easy to find on the web. They do not offer those particular courses anymore but may have a list of those who have taken them. Try www.upledger.com If you can't find it let me know and I will search it out for you. You know how sometimes those places have a list of people who use theese techniques. I know I am being bit difficult here but I am trying to find someone here in Oz who does it.
