Guest guest
I don't recall this option being discussed at GETAC, but I agree it should be considered. My only concern is not so much for the volunteers, but for the very low paid personnel around the state. Your agency and a few others pay a living wage, but many EMT's and medics still work for wages so low that they have to take a 2nd job or work tons of overtime just to make the bills. These folk would be saddled with any fee increase too, and we need to consider that. I fully admit that I don't have a solution. Guest guest
<snip> > The " us " stuff... people cannot agree on what role a Texas > EMS Association would/should play, why is that? > > Junior , EMT-Paramedic > on County EMS Medic 33-Blue Because people are thinking like you - " What's in it for me? " Where were you on Thursday for the EMSAT meeting held here in Austin, just half a county south of you? The EMSAT board, several members and a guest were present. We sat down for over four hours and discussed pretty much everything you could think of relating to EMS and EMSAT. It was productive if nothing else. And cordial. And although we disagreed on points, we listened to each other and came to decisions that were workable. Starting points for solutions. Heck, we even had beers together afterwards (thank you sir! You know who you are!). But somehow, you weren't there. So let's assume you worked Thursday... Where were you on Friday for the GETAC meeting and public comment session? Do you know what was covered and/or what was up for comment? Probably not, you probably didn't know it affected you. But it did, and it does. Too bad - I'd have liked to hear what you had to say, regardless of whether or not I agreed/disagreed with it. And if you didn't have anything to say, I'd have liked to have seen you there listening - and for GETAC to have seen one more face in the crowd. Are you a member of EMSAT? If not, why not? Like they say - if you don't vote, you can't complain. EMSAT is *not* perfect - nothing is. But at least - at the VERY least - they're doing SOMETHING. And on top of that, they at least LISTENED to those of us there willing to comment. Heck, every one of us that commented brought a solution idea to the table, and walked away with a task and a blessing by EMSAT to investigate our solution and/or implement it. You want to know what they are? Join EMSAT - then join the EMSAT group. We'll discuss it there. If you're up for it. Mike , LP
Guest guest
Would it be possible to get some insight into what was productive during this meeting and what workable decisions that were reached. Also what starting points were established for solutions? I appreciate Ron posting the mission statement for EMSAT, but I believe a sharing of these via this list or EMSFACTOR would probably go along way towards getting some fence sitters such as myself a little more excited about joining this organization. Thanks, Dudley Wait
