Guest guest Posted September 30, 2004 Report Share Posted September 30, 2004 I don't know if DOC Bands and Starbands are the same in terms of painting. I painted 's DOC Band and the strap. I did not paint the inside of the velcro (the part that sticks--otherwise it might have gummed up), just the outside part. I used plastic primer for the helmet itself, then regular spray paint after masking off the inside really well (it takes a few minutes to mask properly but it's worth it, otherwise the foam will soak up the spray and it can deteriorate). The paint tended to flake off the strap part after about a week because it was always bending when I took the helmet off and on. However, I would repaint every week anyway so it didn't look bad. The alcohol you use to clean the band tends to melt the colors in stickers anyway, so you end up replacing them. It's more fun to have the variety! I will get some more tomorrow with her newly decorated helmet. I couldn't believe how well she took it today. I thought it would be horrible, but it didn't seem to bother her at all.
