He dident push me into it, he just pointed out how to look down and see the Plagio and hold my hands on her face and see how symetrical she was. After that I was happy to go and get casted. Until that visit I dident understand why my Peadtrician was mentioning the Plagio with every visit as she went for check ups. Guest guest Posted October 7, 2004 Report Share Posted October 7, 2004 It really just depends... seems like, so far as a " craniofacial team " goes (usally a neuro + plastic surgeon), the plastic surgeon is a little more sympathetic to " cosmetic " issues and often has a better bedside manner. That isn't to say that a neuro won't band, they can just have a more challenging communication style. And that is a BIG stereotype-- I am sure there are plenty of neurosurgeons with top- drawer bedside manners. By the time you get to a specialist, they are usually pretty educated about plagio. It is the pediatricians who keep saying " it will round out. " Seems like with most specialists, if your child is " borderline " they will ask you what you want to do. If you are even CONSIDERING banding, get a script and letter of mediacl necessity-- you don't have to use it, but you'll have one ready to go if you choose to try helmet therapy. > > Are neurosurgeon usually against the band or for it? > Just curious, I am taking my daughter to a neurosurgeon next month. Guest guest Posted October 8, 2004 Report Share Posted October 8, 2004 Every one told me to see a neurosurgeon, but we got our referal from a Neurologist (who we saw because of the hypotonia). It realy depends on the doctor. From what I was told the Rx can come from any doctor. It just depends on what that doctors views are. I think we got ours from the Neuro because he said he sees lots of kids with the problem and he dosn't know alot about the bands. I think we are the guinipig for him. If it works maybe he will refer more kids to CT. You can always call ahead of time to the doctor you are going to see and ask him what he thinks of the band. It's better then wasing time seeing someone who won't refer. Maybe someone here has seen the same one and can give you an idea of their experience. In my case, the neuro we saw was for the band in severe cases like my daughters, but when it came time for her to need a second band after outgrowing her first in 10 weeks(she was still considered moderate at that point), he wouldn't write us the prescription. We got it from our ped instead though.
