Guest guest
My daughter will be receiving her DOC band in the next few weeks. She will be 7 months when she begins. She has some facial assymmetry (her eyes and ears are misaligned, and one cheek is slightly fuller). My doctor has focused on fixing the flatness of her head, but I'm very concerned with the facial assymmetry. I know the band will hopefully round out her head, but will it also correct the facial problems? I'm very concerned!!!!! Thanks!!!!
Guest guest
Hi there My daughter (banded 6 1/2 to 10 1/2 months) also had quite significant facial asymmetry that was helped enormously by her band. I'd say it was 95% improved and that's just fine by me! Good luck with the band and let us know how your little girl gets on. Guest guest
Welcome to the group. As your daughter's head rounds out, her facial features will align better as well. It will probably take a bit longer to see the results, but I'm sure you'll be very happy with the outcome. , mom to Hannah, DOCgrad Cape Cod, Ma > > My daughter will be receiving her DOC band in the next few weeks. > She will be 7 months when she begins. Guest guest
Thanks - I'm glad to know the symmetry of my daughters' facial features will improve. How old was your daughter when she began her DOC band? How long did she wear it for? How much did she improve? As you can imagine, I've been very anxious since our daughter was diagnosed!!! Encouraging words from ANYONE with respect to the improvement I can expect would really ease my mind!!!!! > > > > My daughter will be receiving her DOC band in the next few weeks. > > She will be 7 months when she begins. Guest guest
It definitely makes me feel better knowing that your daughter's assymetry improved by 95%!! Do you think that anyone (other than yourself) would notice any assymetry now? I haven't really found any before/after photos (to ease my mind) where the child had very noticeable facial assymetry before the DOC band, so I am a bit concerned. Hopefully she will be as lucky as Lucia!!!!! Lee Alta., Can. > > > > My daughter will be receiving her DOC band in the next few weeks. > > She will be 7 months when she begins. Guest guest
Hi, Hannah wore 3 DOCbands from 4 mos to 19 mos for her severe plagio. I created a website for her at: http://hannahsnoggin.typepad.com/hannahs_noggin/ where you can read about her story and see her amazing progress photos. Looking at those alone will help ease your mind! Since you're especially concerned w/the facial features, pay close attention to how much Hannah's ear assymetry improved, especially in that last band. , mom to Hannah, DOCgrad Cape Cod, Ma > > > > > > My daughter will be receiving her DOC band in the next few > weeks. > > > She will be 7 months when she begins. Guest guest
HI, I see that you've already received some great replies. I just wanted to let you know that my daughter's DOCband corrected her facial asymmetries. She wasn't banded until she was almost 11.5 months old. You can see her pictures in the Before and after section under DOCbands, her name is . Please keep us posted on your daughter's progress. > > My daughter will be receiving her DOC band in the next few weeks. > She will be 7 months when she begins. Guest guest
Ear and facial asymmetry are always last to correct. It's because there is no direct control over this improvement. The band redirects the growth of all areas it touches. It douesn't touch the face or ears (and ears meaning true skull base). However, as it corrects the head shape the rest of the skull follows. So over time the facial and ear asymmetries start to become less noticable and more normal. Does that make sense? Both of my girls had ear and facial assymmetries. They both saw big improvements. na, DOC Grad X2 Feb 2004 Kiersten, DOC Grad 4/4/06, Tort Resolved www.thefilyaws.com/plagio/plagio.html > > Hi. New to group. Guest guest
Donna, My son started wearing his DOC band yesterday. I asked our tech at CT about exercises and it sounds to me like they are for torticollis. I would think they would help facial assym because once the tort is resolved the assym will stop getting worse. In other words the band and the exercises go together as a treatment. The tort is continuously drawing the face down and you want to get the tort resolved to stop that. Then the band fixes the assym that is already there, in theory. The stretches keep any future assym from happening. Does that make sense. That is just what I think.
