You need to be seen, as in SEEN. It's not your " fault " --you know how to eat and take vites. I saw my surgeon yesterday and he said I should try two things differently to try and prevent the vomiting. He said I should cut up the large vitamins and make sure that when I eat meat, I chew it with a veggie at the same time, so that the moisture from the veggie would make the meat more moist, therefore helping it to pass into the intestine easier. I was having a good day yesterday, even had 3 bottles of water before the appt., and my 2nd protein on the way there. So I didn't push the idea of an endoscope, cause I thought maybe it was getting better. Well, this morning I woke up with pouch pain, took my iron and vit. C, both small pills, and immediately felt the pain, the foaming began, and vomiting soon after. It was not a good way to start the day. After taking a nap, I did get a protein drink down before going to get my hair permed. And I've had supper and it seems to be fine. My PCP finally called with the results of the bloodwork. He said my liver enzymes are elevated. He said sometimes this is normal after having surgery. So he is going to discuss the results with Dr. Chua, and have me come in to have the levels rechecked next week. He will call me again after he speaks with Dr. Chua(my surgeon). So, my question is, does anyone think that this pouch trouble that I am having and/or the reflux is in any way related to or caused by liver problems? Also I want to know if you are eating before you take your iron? I have had to take iron even before my surgery because I am slightly anemic. If I take my iron and C on an empty stomach I get the worst pains and they last for almost an hour. Speaking of DR Chua what do you think of his aftercare? Have you been to any of the support meetings? I didn't even know they had any because I wasn't told about them I am going to try to go this month Helena Beasley [unable to display image] post-Op Open RNY 5'2 247 lb. Guest guest
Hi Helena - Yes, I was taking the iron and C on an empty stomach, but am just not taking any iron the past couple days. I usually don't need to eat breakfast because I have my water bottle followed by protein drink and that satisfies me. Maybe I should start reversing the two. Protein first, then the water. I think I'm just going to give up eating! Ha! LOL! I've been told repeatedly about the support group, but it seems I never make it down for it. I might make it next week. I'd really like it if my hubby finishes work early enough so he could drive. But I should go either way. Tammy Lynn said she was having a chef come to this support group meeting next week. I am starting my own support group here in West Bend next month. I've asked my church to use a meeting room, first meeting scheduled to be on the 16th, a Monday, at 7 p.m. I really don't know what to think about Dr. Chua's aftercare. There isn't much, especially if you don't go to the support group, but on the other hand, I think he and Tammy Lynn are there for whenever we might have a question. I keep going back and forth on whether my problem is serious enough to need to be scoped or not. To be honest, I think I've been overeating a bit at meals. So now I'm making sure I measure out only a 1/2 cup of food. And cut it up really small. If I still have problems, then at least I'll know it's not something I'm doing. Well, this has gotten long. Thanks for caring. Jeanne in WI Age 39 Open RNY 05/21/2002 314/ 266 /150-175 5' 8 " djgraves@...
Guest guest
Dear Jeanne, I was thinking it was the sunflower seeds, really I was. I know that everyone is different (especially everyone's pouches) but I've always read that nuts are even harder to digest than corn. I hear you, my dear friend. This really is a " eat and learn " time for you where you experiment a little and find out what works and what doesn't work for you. I'm glad that there are ladies and gents who have gone before you and will have gone before me when I have my surgery. I am grateful for everyone's advice and life experience. Don't ever regret posting with questions and concerns. I am glad you feel confident about what your problem might have been and what your solution is. I want you to call your Doc back if you do all those things and you are still experiencing those same problems. Take care, Babe. Guest guest
Well, since ice cream is/was my PASSION, SERIOUSLY, my response to him would be " is that ice cream worth divorcing over " ?. lol Kris Re: update Congrats Nicky! Isn't it amazing how those cravings go away so quickly? You're doing wonderful, keep it up. It's also great your husband is doing it with you. Mine is eating the suppers I make without complaint, but then grabs the ice cream and hits the couch LOL I make him keep that in the deep freeze, which is out in the garage, which has been converted into a workshop and laundry room. The deep freeze is in the laundry room behind the door in the corner, so if I want that ice cream I have to go out there in the cold garage, open that heavy door, and dig for it (I bury it on purpose). If he asks me to get it for him I say no, when he's eating it I stay busy cleaning up dishes or scrubbing bathrooms, play with the kids in another room, whatever. The first couple days of week one I had bad cravings for sweets and he would say " why should I be punished because you're punishing yourself? " But, about day 3 I just had no more cravings, it was amazing. I am still not craving anything like that even though I have had a couple meals off plan. I can't wait for FF fruit yogurt though! Guest guest
I think if I had a husband/boyfriend who wasn't totally in it with me or didn't eat those things in the house, it would make things a lot harder. So true. I think having a sympathetic, if not cooperative, significant other/roommate/etc is highly important to success on this. Luckily my wife and I are both in the same boat so we're here for each other, playing " bad cop " every so often to keep each other on track. But man it'd be tough if we didnt'... ----------------------------- Maybe we met yesterday... www.nathanpralle.com -----------------------------
