Guest guest
I believe Atkins want your fat to be 70% of the calories you eat. I need to re read that part to make sure, I remember thinking when I read it before, " Thats a lot!! Guest guest
Hi Penny Does Dr Adkins distinguish between saturated fat and other kinds of fat when he talks about 70% of your calories? I've just started on the Protein Power diet but I'm going to order Dr Adkins book too just to see what the differences are--and if I don't lose weight on this one--maybe I'll try the Adkins diet. Thanks, Bevnselah@...
Guest guest
Hi Swann I would be really interested in the recipe for the soft rolls--I miss bread alot. There's no hurry though-- Thanks, Bevnselah@...
Guest guest
Mollie Thanks for the info. Are there any good recipes in the Adkins book that I'm missing? Right now, I'm working my way thru the Low Carb Cookbook and loving every minute of it. I made the Cream of Tomato soup yesterday and today is going to be a perfect day to try it--it's rainy and windy--a perfect day for some chocolate m & ms--but I'll settle for some nice warm tomato soup and perhaps some weight loss this week? Bye for now, Bevnselah@...

Guest guest
Hi The recipe is Cream of Tomato Soup--With or Without Crab from the Low Carb Cookbook by Fran McCullough Serves 6 3 tbsp clarified butter or Plugra 3 shallots, chopped 3 lbs ripe tomatoes or 2 (141/2 oz) cans Muir Glen diced tomatoes 1/4 tsp dried thyme 2 cups chicken broth 1/4 tsp baking soda 1/2 cup heavy cream Pinch of ground red pepper (cayenne) Salt & ground black pepper 1 tbsp grated horseradish, optional 1/2 pound picked crabmeat, optional In a lg saucepan, melt the butter and add the shallots. Cook slowly for 10 mins or until soft. Cut the fresh tomatoes in cubes and discard the seeds. Add the tomatoes to the saucepan along with the thyme and chicken broth. Bring to a simmer and cover. Cook slowly for 20 mins. Turn off the heat and puree the soup in the blender or right in the saucepan with a hand-held blender. Add the baking soda, cream and cayenne. Heat the soup for serving but don't let it boil. Stir in the horseradish just before you ladle it into warm soup bowls. Scatter the crab on top or just finish the soup with a grind of black pepper and a feathering of cream on top. Per serving: Protein 1.2 grams, Fat 13.1 g Carb 7.2 g Hope you like it as much as I did, Bevnselah@...

Guest guest
Thank you everyone for welcoming me and the encouragment. yes i have heard the horror stories about the bypass as well. i just want to find a way to lose all this weight and keep it off without a struggle which i know has to to this WOE i guess i am still a bit of a skeptic as to whether i can really lose as much as i need to and keep it off and that it won't be bad for me but i guess you never know till you try. I am doing well with this WOE though if anyone has any great ideas for breakfast that are like having cereal and milk please share its the one thing i really miss. i have gotten used to not having bread and i found mashed cauliflower the other day.. mmmm yet it seems i still like to have my morning milk/cereal thing though i don't. I tried strawberries and cream which are unbelieveably good when you are on this WOE but unfortunately its not enough to get you through the day till lunch i am planning on keep strawberries and cream handy when i get those cravings for milk. I am fortunate in that i can eat a fair amount of carbs and stay in ketosis. oh which reminds me. i lost the link but there is a site out there somewhere that states its not the level of ketosis you are in but just the fact you are in it that you need to watch. And only eat enough fat in your diet to keep you satisfied hunger wise but don't over do it or the ketones you are using with be the intake fat not stored fat. If anyone knows more on where this is fact or not i would greatly appreciate. I do watch my fat intake cuz i am a bit paranoid for my cholestorol and i wanna lose maximum i can from stored not intake fat. oh and the color/level of ketosis also depends on your water intake. do you all have the recipe for the soft rolls? its unbelieveable good when you have a bread craving. Its cottage cheese and egg. i can list if you anyone wants later. ok well i gotta run get ready for work now and have something to eat. See you all later, diana p.s. i am on AOL as well: swanflyer if anyone wants to IM me. have a great day.
Guest guest
HI SWANN Ok other Atkinsers... please stop me if i'm wrong (it's time I read the book again to just remind me) but your fat intake DOESNT matter. You can have fat. Matter of fact, if youre in a stall dont they recommend increasing your fat intake? PLEASE..... correct me if i'm wrong, but i'm pretty sure i'm not. So Swann... dont worry about the fat... eat it. Make tuna or chicken salad with lots of mayo.. not the reduced fat.. some of that can have more carbs (same with reduced fat ranch dressing). Keep up the good work! Mollie
Guest guest
Bev- I bought both books to compare. I tell ya the only real difference I could find was in Ppower you can subtract the fiber grams from the total carb grams because fiber isnt digested and doesnt act like other carbs. Go ahead and buy it if you want, but there really isnt much difference. Mollie
