That is unbelieveable. There is something wrong with us. My NP said

that if most folks took as much as we are having to take, their

Ferritin would be sky high. I will have to be on iron the rest of my

life considering how pitiful mine usually is. It can fall more than

10 points in just a few months if I don't take iron. I was achey at

38.

I start to ache and get cold so I know it is dropping when I eat any flour or

gluten of any kind, yet I am not a celiac sufferer according to my test results.

Yet, my issues get worse with the flour. Figure that one out

It's our crummy metabolism. We can't seem to turn over the oxygen and other

nutrients to our body cells properly. Of course, that is the simple way of

putting it, not the mumbo-jumbo scientific explanations that make our brains do

flip-flops when we read all that stuff. Then, because we no longer have the

" perfect " function of the thyroid, and we're having to replace it all from the

outside, the body systems have a terrible time keeping up with a correct

metabolic rate. Some of these nutrients get " wasted " or used up in the process

of the body trying to keep up with something that is being corrected. We have

to be so much more diligent than " normal " people. I know, it is very

frustrating that we have to be this diligent for the rest of our lives, for

something that will never be exactly perfect again. I haven't had periods for

16 yrs, due to hysterectomy. I shudder to think what my iron status would be

like, if I did, at this point.

It probably has to do with some sort of weird binding that goes on in your gut

somewhere, when you consume these things. What is that part of the intestine

where this iron, B12, and folate absorption takes place? Not the transverse

colon, but another part---aaaaa-can't think of it. Anyway, it all takes place

there, and if there is some sort of error there, the nutrients go nowhere, or

else we have to take so much of the nutrient that it forces the issue or

absorption. Not the ileus either---gee whiz, brain fog!

My metabolism is crummy even on an optimal dose of Armour--3 grains

currently. My T3 is over the top, and my temp is great, yet, I have

to eat like a flea to maintain my weight. Ah well!

I'm the same way. But I understand that celiac disease doesn't show up on

the blood test until it is advanced. And you can still be sensitive to gluten

without having celiac disease.

I always thought that gluten sensitivity IS Celiac Disease, and Celiac is an

autoimmune disease, so it does have antibodies.

I could be wrong, but I had a doc explain that you could have food

" sensitivities " ...but that is different than having an " allergic " reaction such

as

celiac disease. Also, I read that the only definitive way to diagnose celiac

disease was with a intestinal biopsy. I know for me, I have to limit wheat

products or my digestive system gets off...but I did not test positive for

celiac

disease. Maybe someone here has more info?

You don't happen to be an O blood type do you? O's can't tolerate wheat.

before my hysterectomy, my iron level was so low, even taking a super dose of

iron prior to the surgery, that when I gave blood for myself, they said I wasn't

'legal' enough to donate blood to the general public!! I figure my level is up

since the surgery (way back when), but it has never been tested. This discussion

has really been interesting and informative !!

Immunoglobulin Type A and Immunoglobulin Type B, each specific substances

showing a defense against specific antigens (foreign invaders, recognized as

such by your body). For instance, I know that I have specific IgE to St.

Augustine grass, Oak and Cedar pollens, and certain Molds. I'm sure that I have

specific ones to specific foods, though that hasn't been proven by testing. The

former ones are. I know that since that testing back in 1990, I've likely

developed a lot more of them to other things. It's gotten ridiculous.

Yep, I slept last night, lol, and just answered it. Autoimmune antibodies are

different, since they mobilize the T-Killer cells against our own tissue,

instead of against actual foreign invaders from the outside, or from what we put

into our bodies, as in food or drugs. The IgAs I don't understand as well as

the IgEs, and the whole thing can be difficult to understand frankly, unless we

become biochemists.

There is food sensitivity, food allergy, as you said, and then there is

autoimmune, where the T-Killer cells attack something in the body that they have

mistaken for a foreign invader. Celiac is one such autoimmune disease, but, as

you said, wheat allergy, or food sensitivity wouldn't be. Antiparietal

antibodies are at work in Celiac against gluten in all things.

I'm A+, but I don't know about Cindi, who posted the original question on the

wheat thing. I frankly, still think that I may have gluten sensitivity, but

haven't been tested for such, i.e., bloating, feeling generally not so good,

etc...when consuming any grains, other than rice. And I love oatmeal, buttered

bread, pastas, and the like.

I am O+ and have never tested positive for this either. and never had a problem

digesting products with wheat or gluten in them.

I did test positive for eggs! but I can eat eggs - and I get the flu shot with

no problems!

I'm allergic to most green living things - and pollens and dusts and molds...

IgA and IgG are going to be things formed for defense against " alien " things

that your body doesn't like. I don't really understand what happens

biochemically, when this happens, but, yes, I would assume that. Did the doctor

not even explain any of this? Someone else around here has Hyper IgE Syndrome,

which is certainly a lot worse than a few allergies, but it is very exaggerated,

and the description of it to me, sounds more MCS (Multiple Chemical

Sensitivity).
