Flights from Canada are sent from Vancouver. A friend suggests we Canadians could use a break in flying time...fly to LA, stay over and join the crew. we'd be heading south anyway. Just a thought.... What is a rule tho is that you can't be in an Emergency Exit Row. Actually the rule is much broader than deaf people, you can't sit in the row if your unable to follow the crews directions and assist in the evacuation. Which Eliminates, Deaf, Most handicap people, Alot of Senior Citizens, children. I don't think there's an actual law prohibiting a group of deaf people travelling together, but it would probably be helpful for us (and the airline) if we gave them some kind of heads up. As a rule, when I travel, I always make sure to let the flight attendant know I'm deaf. I'd like to be told when we are gonna crash Pete -- Brayman ICQ # 66709621
Guest guest
? There might actually be laws prohibiting that ;-) (real rule, deaf people cannotbe assigned to aisle seats) HUH???? Well, I've got news for you...I ALWAYS have an aisle seat. Doesn't matter which airline. They just ask me where I want to sit and I tell them an aisle seat. I've had no problem whatsoever in the last 20 years. NONE. June

Guest guest
Crew, I'd say a day or two stop over in Hawaii is just what the doctor ordered. Guest guest
Well a lot of people who work for the airlines don't know the rule, because I just got back and was in an aisle seat on both flights; and I tell them I'm deaf! Never heard that before! I know you can't sit in the exit aisle, but not a regular aisle seat. I may have to sell my furniture, but what the heck!! Marie Re: OZ Adventure Marie Marie, Tev and all of you thinking of coming to OZ, I agree with your thoughts about seeing as much as you can. I would like to make you aware of one of the advantages of taking this particular alliance option, "UNITED AIRLINES - AIR NEW ZEALAND and ANSETT". The reason I make this suggestion is that Ann and I flew to LA, then up to SF to stay with our son some years ago - but on the way back to OZ we flew Air NZ out of LA - and stopped over for 3 days in Honolulu - then we flew Air NZ to New Zealand - there was a large group of Americans who got off there to do a 3 - 5? day tour before flying onto Brisbane in OZ. We had an Americn girl from SF stay with us for a few days before she flew home flying Air NZ. The flight she took went to NZ with a stop over for 2 - 3 hrs before flying on to Tahiti where she stayed for 3-4 days??? not sure. Before flying on to LA then up to SF. So you could if you wanted to see 3 countries in the 1 trip. Whoever is going to do the research - I would think it worth while for you to investigate all those options above by getting in touch with Air NZ and getting one of their 2002 travel brochues, and look at what is on offer. Then I suggest that you go shopping for the cheapest travel agent as they are cheaper than Air NZ can do it for. Especially for groups. who has to go to bed because of a self inflicted headache. Darn Hoochy Cooch... I'm with Tev there; if we are spending all this money on airfare, it would be nice to tour around a bit either before or after? Guest guest
Marie, I know the others will read this so I will just address you. What I posted were options from the direct flight - Marcus will get to it but there are places you can go to by plane from the Gold Coast - such as flying to Hamilton Island Resort where you can take trips out to the Outer Barrier Reef and snorkel - can be three day trip. I am sure that Ansett flies in and out of there. I know of a coach tour that will be going to the Red Centre (Ayres Rock) but you can fly to Ayres Rock cutting out 2 days bus travel and pick it up there - (this tour company Ann and I have been with and have found them excellent to travel with, as they cater for the slower generation.) and come back through out-back Queensland. (Very good tour) But there are hundreds of 1 - 2 - 3 day tours, as well as 7 - 14 day tours. You people will have a many day trips to do once you get here. The only trips that you would have to organise are the longer ones, and then about 6 months before you leave.. Really - for a group travelling - you only need a date that you are leaving LA and a date you are leaving OZ for home, and in between you can all go your separate ways if you want. You will NOT see all of Australia - why - we have people here who do nothing - other than travel around OZ and they will tell you that after 4 years of travelling - we still haven't been to this place or that place. My advice is to agree on a date to leave and a date to come home, and everything else will fall into place.... ........ who is looking forward to meeting you all.
