Guest guest
Rick, That was fast!! Oh no, I can tell I'm going to want a personal copy - so much of this info would be a great addition to the group site. We have very limited file space, however, so we can't upload a bunch of documents. The topics I am most interested in just off the top of my head are: 8. Clinical Evaluation Processes and Procedures for the Orthotic Treatment of Infants With Deformational Plagiocephaly. Fish, Deanna MS, CPO[Consensus Topics] 10. Orthotic Treatment Protocols for Plagiocephaly. Larsen, Jeff CO[Consensus Topics] 17. Deformational Plagiocephaly: Recommendations for Future Research. Littlefield, R. MS; , M. PhD[Consensus Topics] It's of great interest to the group to see some work done against establishing industry protocols across the board for helmets and bands, to help get some consistency from place to place, etc. Would it be possible to copy and paste an article in a post here? You are wonderful to offer up your help and time here, thank you so much! Christie (Mom to Repo'd Remy) > We have it. Here are the titles of the articles in that issue. MS; , M. PhD Ha! That's the one I just finished looking at (it caught my eye first). Here are a few of the major points from it, but I'll try to look in more detail tomorrow or Friday. I only have a few minutes and then I probably won't be back on-line until tomorrow. Here are a few major points from the article: 1) Research on plagio is limited in volume compared to other areas of medicine. 2) No studies documenting its natural course. 3) Controversial --- Some experts believe head shape usually rounds out with normal growth and development, but others do not share this view. 4) More research needed on natural history/course. 5) Insurance tries not to pay because there is no compelling evidence that untreated plagio results in functional problems later in life. 6) Studies on helmets have been criticized because many of them have not been controlled---- People make the argument that the heads would have rounded out naturally without helmets. 7) Studies are neeeded that compare kids who get helmets to those who receive no treatment, but there are ethical concerns about conducting this type of research. Gotta run, but I can look at it in more detail tomorrow! Rick Rick, That was fast!! Guest guest
I would love to see number 7 as the authors were my son's physical therapist and her college professor who has also treated my son. Guest guest
I can only view them through my library account on our intranet. I wish we had access to downloading articles, but I think you have to pay an extra fee to do that. > > From: Filyaw <monicash@...> > Date: 2005/01/05 Wed PM 01:49:53 EST > Plagiocephaly > Subject: Re: Re: Journal of Prosthetics & Orthotics > > Christy and Rick, > If I can get electronic copies I'll put them on my personal webpage.
