Laurie, good luck with work, you are right, it has seemed like a short summr. I give you credit for working. Was this the first time you saw Dr Cohen? How did you manage to get to see him? Also I am wondering if you have any more mito key chains?

I made it through the first day of work. It is always nice to get back to see all the people I haven't seen since June.

I have been seeing Dr. Cohen for about 3 years (I think). I go once every six months for monitoring and see a local MDA neuro every 3 months.

I do have more of the key chains.

Laurie, I think going to work must feel great, being part of rhe "real world". I would like to order 10 more key chains, but I no longer have your address. If you send it to me I will forward another check to you. Don't work too hard, keep your strength up.

,

I hope you have a good and safe trip to Cleveland. I know exactly what your talking about regarding the crashing after traveling. Thats me to the T. I wish I knew something to tell you so you can avoid the crash, but unfortunately I don't. Just really rest when you get home and don't push yourself to get back into the normal routine right away. Let your body tell you what you can do and when. I'll pray for your appt at Cleveland to go well and that you will some much needed answers and help.

I can't remember where you will be coming from and if you will be flying or driving. I drive (it is about a 5 hour trip). I have found that the only way I can do it is to stop and relax at every rest area and plan to stay overnight for at least one night. I stay at the Guesthouse and use the shuttles to the building he is in. They have wheelchairs and pushers available throughout CCF but you need to call at least 1/2 hour to let them know your needs. Another option there is to arrive early and ask for the wheelchair. Don't be afraid to ask for help. I know it is hard sometimes, but you need to do this for your health. I have found that the extra day or two really helps me to stay in better metabolic state.

As for the progression and depression, I think each person deals with it differently. I have found that low dose Paxil (this seems to be good for me, but not for others) helps me get through the round spots. I take it all the time. You have to let yourself grieve for your losses. It is sometimes harder to do this than to grieve for a loss of a person, because it seems minor by comparison. The thing is that we have to grieve over and over. I have found that giving myself permission to grieve makes me a stronger person in the end. It is not easy, but can be done. Personally I find that each period of grieving seems to be shorter. I have found that my health is better when I add an assertive device, but that to requires a readiness and a period of grief.

I will thinking about you on Tuesday.

Hugs,

Laurie

Subject: Trip to Cleveland

Hello Everyone!

I have been REALLY quiet for several weeks here on the list,

althogh I have been following along with the posts.

I am scheduled for a trip to Cleveland to see Dr Cohen next

Tuesday. I am hoping that he will be able to give my Docs here in Fl

some advise and provide them a care plan for me. I have been

progressively weakening and am I am now using a walker to get around

during the " crash times " . I have been hospitalized twice in the last

few months for dehydration due to chronic vomiting and IBS, which

seems to be the precursor to all crashes. I am depressed and am

having a tough time dealing with the progression of my disease. As

you all know, I have 2 boys who are also affected. The boys are

relatively stable right now. I am Blessed that their Health is not

progressing like mine has. I was hoping that someone might be able

to share some of their feelings with me about how they are dealing

with the issues of progression.

I am traveling alone to Cleveland, because my Husband needs to be

here for the boys. I am worried about the stress of the trip ( I

always seem to crash after traveling). I would appreciate sny input

from my fellow " oldies " .

Thanks,
