Guest guest
, : I cannot tell who wrote what above as there was not a name referenced between the two posts. If states, this is a personal decision, I agree with it. The laws on book now, specify, it must be self medication and anyone can do this to euthanize themselves. Since you have and others, can take your own life without involving the government to allow people with alternative motive to intervene. Save your medicines, take the whole bottle, same effect. Suicide is Suicide, government sanctioned or not. It is still the same rules, the patient must be the one to self medicate to meet the criteria of the Oregon law. There are other over the counter medications that will also give the same effect. Under this law, no one else is supposed to be helping out, it is just the Doctor giving the prescription and the person must be competent, and take the medication themselves. I do not know of many people at the stages you state that can self medicate and will have to die accordingly. The person committing suicide is the same as the patients under the " RIght to DIgnity " law. They are just committing suicide with a Doctors prescription which I offer can be done without government intervention. There is no difference. I respect your right to commit this act for yourself and would never judge anyone for doing so. Thus there lies the problem, this should be an individual decision which should not have government intervention as it opens the door for malpractice. This act has been done for years with many people probably not knowing. I have spent many days going to homes of my Cancer patients and others with other diseases that cause comparable pain, too long to list, caring, getting support for them. I have watched parents of cerebral palsy children and other diseases that need breathing support die short lives. I do not know of one parent that would shorten their child's life and when do we stop qualifying who can and cannot have assisted suicide, thus the reason for not making it a government program? The premise was supposedly so the act would not be criminalized and Doctors who write prescriptions do so protected. Let us go to the Nursing Home and knock off all the Grandmas and Granpas by getting powers of attorney so we can make sure we get what is left in their wills or cost to much. Sorry , I understand you prospective, but as you say, they are instruments out there to take care of this, Living Wills, Do Not Resuscitate, and options for the patient to make for themselves. We do not need to include the government. Also, I love my pets dearly, and do not take euthanasia lightly, and I cannot compare them with humans. Also, because pets can be euthanized, the shelters, euthanize them within three days because it is overpopulated or because they are a feared breed. You can make this point to counter what you said. I do Volunteer Rescue work and spend twelve hours of my day cutting and pasting these animals awaiting euthanize to other rescue groups, to save them from a use of euthansia I do not like. The RIght to Dignity law does not say what I think most think it does and requires self medication from a patient that is still competent to do so. I stand firm on my opinion also as I have been to the depths of hell on both sides and I do not like what I see about Euthanisia laws. This is one subject I believe needs to remain with the individual and those wanting to pursue it, contact the Hemlock Society, they can assist you in your decision but please leave the government out of this. I, for one, do not want the government in this one. Respectfully, Bennie
Guest guest
The government has enough paws coming into our lives on the daily basis. They want to control how we live and now they want a hand in how you die. I agree that death is a personal thing. I have had family members die a very long painful death and have had a son who died a very quick accidental death. The government has their hands in the pockets of funerals for a long time now. And now they want to tell us how we are going to die. If I get the cancers that ate my grandmother very slowly and painfully. I will not go that route. I would want to live until it gets to the point of not living the life I want. I have a living will along with an organ donor card. Gentle hugs, Ms.Katurah > Bennie wrote: This is one subject I believe needs to remain with the individual and those wanting to pursue it, contact the Hemlock Society, they can assist you in your decision but please leave the government out of this.
