Guest guest
Stella, Have you had any problems like leg cramps or light headedness? Those are a couple of signs that you need a supplement. I take 99mgs a day and seem to do ok, some people need more. It depends on your own body. Maybe someone else out there can remember the other sypmtoms of low potassium. Hope this helps Hugs, Penny 173/162/130 Visit my family at: Home Page http://www.ge ocities.com/heartland/pines/6116/wilson.html

Guest guest
Hi Stella It's sure hard to tell how much potassium everyone needs but the RDA indicates you need 4,000 mg a day--none of us get anywhere near that much. But everything I read says you have to be careful not to take too much either. Dr Eades in Protein Power suggests you take 3- 90 mg tablets a day--I'm starting with 1 a day and then next week I'll go to 2 a day to see how that works for me. I decided to take the potassium because I was feeling tired all the time after the first 2 weeks and in the Protein Power book they indicate fatigue can be a symptom of potassium deficiency. Guest guest
You know the US RDA also says we need to have 300 carbs!! Guest guest
Hi Tina thanks--you're right. I'll do that. But I did feel better though--about 2 hrs after taking my lunch potassium pill--the dizzy stuff went away--and I hadn't had many carbs until after lunch either. Guest guest
Penny 300 carbs? When I tried the Good morning American diet I figured I was consuming about 150-200 carbs a day and I was definitely not losing any weight or inches. So what would be happening with 300 carbs? I'm afraid to think of it. Bev
Guest guest
Hi Tina You know I don't know how they snuck all this gram/liter stuff in on me--I've been dead set against it--but here I am having to deal with grams, milograms, micrograms, etc, etc, etc when I'm least able to comprehend...ha, ha...okay maybe I can figure it out if I want--I just don't want to...so I think you're younger than I am and so maybe you were forced to learn it in school... so maybe you can tell me--isn't a gram equal to 1000 mg? So if you took 1 gram--wouldn't that be 1000mg a day? which would still be lower than 4000 rda. Just curious... Stone ages bev

Guest guest
Since B vitamins are water-soluble, you will urinate out the excess. However, usually lots of B vitamins (and always take B complex, don't take only one of them or so) will make you flush, like hot flashes, maybe make your face a bit itchy. If you want to megadose B vitamins, you need to ramp up to dosage in order to absorb a lot. Also you need to take them with C. " heidi here... Guest guest
there is no way to tell how much potassium you need unless you get blood work drawn, it is very dangerous for your heart to be too high or too low, for me, I just use salt substitute , which has potassium in it, I figure that is enough. There is also some in the vitamins I take, but I would not take any more than that without a doctor's order. , RN a question > > >Hi everyone i have been following Dr.Atkins for 5 days now i am happy >with the results lost 7 lbs so far but i have been hearing a lot of >stuff about potassium and i got so worried i ate a banana a few minutes >ago. i take a vitamin once a day that has 80 mg of potassium is that >enough thanks for any help. stella > > >---------------------------
Guest guest
chest pain or muscle cramps are a sign of both low and high potassium. If you get chest pain you'd better get to a doc, btw, My friends are telling me they know of someone on Atkins who died of a sudden heart attack years ago, although he had a heart condition (CHF) , It makes me wonder about his potassium level. Nothing against the diet, but I think this is why he recommends that labwork be done. Re: a question >From: Shadcat708@... > >Stella, > >Have you had any problems like leg cramps or light headedness?
