Hi ,I asked this not too long ago, but did not get a response.

I hope someone might have an opinion or idea.

I want to get another person to read my scan, one that I know has read

and deals with thyroid cancer scans.

Does anyone have any ideas on how or where I could do that.

When no one answers a message, it's usually because no one is sure of an

answer (or else there's something REALLY riveting on TV :-)

Certainly getting a second opinion is your right, and often a smart thing

to do. I'm not sure how an RAI scan is actually printed up, but I imagine

you could absolutely get a printed copy of it, just as you would get a copy

of any of your records. Many people get second opinions on path reports;

in fact doctors often send slides off to places like Sloan Kettering or

Mayo if they themselves want a second opinion.

I think you're asking about how to find someone to give their opinion (not

how to get the scan info)?

If you think that the person who read your report is not the top person at

your hospital, I would go to the head of radiology. Next, I would

discuss with my endo my desire to get a second opinion (since it's not the

endo who does the reading, it shouldn't be an uncomfortable

discussion). If you know of a thyca specialist near where you live, I

would make an appointment with him/her; if not, find one that you can get

to, and make the appointment. His/her office can get the scan copies.

You probably don't have to be there physically to get a second opinion on

your scan, but I imagine the procedure is the same. Find the best person,

call their office, let them tell you what you need to do.

I have a feeling I'm not answering your question; I'm sorry. Are you

asking for names/places to go to? In which case I would suggest one of

the top cancer centers ... Mayo, Memorial Sloan Kettering (NYC), MD

(Houston).

Hi ,

I take for granted that I have really excellent

doctors that I trust completely. If you want a second

opinion, I would suggest obtaining a copy of all your

stuff, scan included (if you could do that) and then

doing a little research to find a doctor that does a

lot of this. You are going to have to be very

proactive in this process. Hopefully, you live near a

big city where you could look for resources.

Best Wishes,

Pattie
