YES!!!

Another cat lover in our midst!

My cat LOVES to lay, stand, or sit in front of the monitor just high enough

and positioned right in front of whatever I need to see. He also likes

to watch me move the mouse cursor around, watch the blocks move on a game I

have, and my aquarium screen saver. Oh...and if he wants my full attention

and I'm typing...well, that's when you're likely to see cat-speak in my

posts. There have even been times when my computer refused to do what I

wanted it to and it turned out the cat had pushed a key or two that I hadn't

noticed. Very puzzling to figure out at times.

I have known smart cats and dumb cats; mean cats and gentle cats; beautiful

cats and ugly cats; cats that were excellent moms (and dads) and cats that

abandoned their offspring; lap cats and " don't you touch me! Don't you

ever, never touch me! You don't know me that well! " cats. I have NEVER

encountered a cat with poor self-esteem.

I currently have 4 cats of my own, one was born here, two were strays (one I

nursed from infancy, two little boys brought her to the cat lady's house),

and the other one I adopted Mrs. Ringtail, who had 4 kittens in a rental car,

was found by the rental car people taken to the humane society. They thought

she was pregnant, but she had already had them. The rental people were sent

back to find the litter of kittens, it took them two days, but the little g

uys' mom acted like they had never been away from her. Since she was such a

good mom (I saw her with her four kittens while working at the HS that week)

the special needs coordinator decided to add 3 orphans to her litter to see

if she would accept them, yup she did. So I was called (I also do foster

care) to take her and her kittens home. So I get to the humane society

expecting to take home a mom with 4 kittens, and lo and behold she had 7!

Of course that wasn't enough for me, I also took home a mom with 7 kittens

and three more orphans, all of them got along fine and hung out together, and

Mrs. Ringtail basically fed, and cleaned all of them 17 kittens and two moms,

plus my 3 cats.

Well I just had to adopt her. Now she won't have anything to do with kittens!

go figure...

Of course currently I have two momma cats, one whose 5 kittens were adopted

last week, and the other one whose kittens are only 5 weeks old and will be

with me for at least another 3-5 weeks, depending on weight, health, etc.

Next Monday I bring home another mom with 5 kittens.

When people ask my husband how he deals with this, he just says " ask me how

much I love my wife? " So they ask him, how much does he love his wife, then

he says, " How many kittens does she have, that's how much I love my wife. "

I am currently slowly writing down the things they do and the stories they

have. So one day when you see a cat book published and you see Mrs.

Ringtail's story in there, you can all say, I knew her when she was making a

living as a Medical Language Specialist!

Okay, call me a mean old lady, but I trained my cat from when she was a

kitten to not EVEN come close to my work area. *g* I have an imaginary

line drawn around me and desk/computer and she won't cross it. I trained

her with a water bottle sprayer thinggy. I just could not work with the cat

all over me, keyboard, and foot pedal!

p.s. She gets lots of attention AWAY from keyboard though.

I am really enjoying all these cat stories!

My cat's name is and when I finally got one corner of the desk cleaned

off, I decided to let him claim it as his since he likes to be close by

whenever I'm sitting in one place long enough. Also, as it is right now,

I'm not home much because of another job and he tells me plainly that he

doesn't like that at all by clinging to me whenever I am home. Well, he has

now decided that not only the corner of the desk belongs to him, but also

any area that doesn't have enough things in his way for him to occupy it. I

frequently have to push him back to his corner and his response is classic

" How dare you! " cat mode and he then comes right back to where he was before

I pushed him only a tad bit further out. We play this " game " for a few

times and then I get frustrated and emphatically push him back and put my

hand in front of him (or my cup) to block his way. He then turns his back

to me completely as if to say " well then! I THAT'S how you feel about it! "

and sits and pouts until he falls asleep. <g>

And ....I'm like you. No kids...but always a cat or two. Can't

wait to see what he thinks about strange voices dictating, foot pedals, etc.

Sometimes he likes to " stalk " you when you're coming out of the bathroom,

he stands on his back feet and does it.

ROTFLMAO!!! Does the phrase, " I raised mine, now you raise yours! " ring any

My husband is a police officer. He is under strict orders NOT to bring

home any cute kittens and to STAY AWAY--far, far away from the Animal

Control holding pens. That is how we have kept the cat population down to

only six in the house at the moment, one of which curled up on his shoe

while he was on a call, one of which was abandoned in the parking lot of

the PD (and now weighs 23½ pounds--the Baby Huey of the cat world), two of

which were plucked off the engine blocks of cars, and one of which was

found with her mom and 4 siblings under a building (but she is cute and the

only indoor female we've had in 20 years). One is a gray tabby mixed with

Himalayan, one is a gray tabby mixed with Siamese (at 16 pounds, the

largest Siamese cat anybody ever saw), one is a gray Angora mix, two are

blondes and one is a typical gray tabby. They range from about 7 pounds to

the aforementioned 23½ pounds. One of the yellow males has raised three

of the others--he's the best dad I've ever seen, including the daddy cat

who used to live next door and come over to visit his kittens--and bat them

around--every afternoon.

The outdoor cat is a gray tabby who one year ago wasn't at all touchable

and had to be trapped to take her to the vet, where she immediately bit the

stuffing out of a technician and had to be quarantined for rabies for 10

days. Once cleared, she could be spayed and tested for ailments and

inoculated. She turned out to be FIV positive, so she had to recuperate

from her surgery at the vet's. It's taken a year, but she will now let me

pet her twice a day, when I feed her, if I stand in the right place and

don't make any sudden moves. Any other time, she keeps a " safe " distance.

Your books sound like an excellent venture, Sue. Let us know when to look

for them!
