yes, yes, Yes!

The very sensitive sense of smell is common with Aspies. Ben was always

asking me " what is that weird smell " even if I didn't smell anything. He

complains if I burn some of those scented candles that I love. He is so

finicky with foods! I wish I could get him to eat better but have learned

to just let him go with what he can tolerate and give him vitamins each day.

He will throw up before you can force him to eat a lot of foods. He won't

eat any meat except chicken nuggets, hot dogs, fish sticks or hamburger. He

won't eat any veggies, only apples for fruit. He will drink orange juice

and cranapple but that is it. Food is a struggle. I am sure that a lot of

you out there are facing this also. This can be so frustrating when you just

want what is best for them and you want them to eat somewhat healthy food!

Don't know about anyne else, but our son (, 16,AS) also has an uncanny

sense of smell. He used to smell food before eating it, but doesn't do that

much anymore. He is a very finicky eater---will take the same lunch to

school

every day...and has for years! Hope this helps...

Blessings,

Gail

Exactly!!!!!! I feel like such a bad mom, like I am making my son

unhealthy cause of what he eats or doesn't eat...but I feel bad

forcing him to eat something he just can't eat...ya know....Your

son's limited menu choice sounds exactly like what will only

eat.

like I said earlier today - they are so alike it's scary.

Do any of you get vitamens from the doctor of just over the counter.

As for the meat thing I know what you mean. My only saving grace is that he

loves raw carrots and mushrooms.

Thanksgiving should be fun. 5 days with my Mom. Dinner's with the family.

It's always a joy having to explain Matt's odd eating habits. Hopefully this

year she will just leave him alone and let me handle it. I swear sometimes I

feel more like 4 than 40!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

foods...Drives me crazy. Hoping that them knowing what has

I have been giving my son the Flintstones vitamins up until now. I guess I

just didn't even think about asking the doctor for vitamins. These are easy

to tolerate and he likes the taste of them so that is what I have been using

He could probably take a One a day or something like that now that he can

swallow pills but the Flintstone Complete seems to be pretty nutritionally

adequate except for Calcium and one other vitamin I can't think of. But he

does drink plenty of chocolate milk so the calcium is not a concern.

are they chewable? I have enough of a problem getting him to take his prozac.

The though of making him swallow a pill is rather daunting!

Do you get the " when you were a child you'd have gone to bed hungry " ?

I've tried explaining that Matt would die of starvation before he ate something

he didn't like,

My own husband tries to even pull that crap....bothers me. I have to

keep reminding him that just can't physically eat certain

things -they make him sick....

My younger son takes Zoloft in the liquid form. We add it to a juice box.

Some have stronger tastes than others. Pam :)

Hi,

I have this hypersensitivity to smell. It started with my first

pregnancy about 8 years ago. I can smell if my husband ate lunch at a

certain restaurant when he comes home at 7 and is 2 rooms away. If I

am at the gym on an exercise machine, I sometimes have to move if

someone who has had garlic or onions starts sweating next to me.

Cinnamon makes me extremely nauseous; this makes planes and movie

theaters torture sometimes. I buy all unscented, fragrance-free

cosmetics and laundry detergents.

It's really unpleasant and there's nothing I can do about it.

It has only been 4 days and I have been scrubbing the band with

alcohol, but it smells like feet already. Any suggestions?

I Christmas stickered today and will post pics soon.

Christy,

Welcome to the stinky band club!! LOL Most of us have been there. When washing Kennedy's hair get the sweetest smelling shampoo possible. Shampoo at the beginning of her bath and let it set until the end to rinse. So this keeps her head smelling sweet (or almost). Alcohol is the only thing you can use in the DOC band. Is Kennedy still sweating a lot? If so take it off a couple times a day and just dry it out (don't use the alcohol). Too much alcohol can be a skin irritant. It sounds like you are using a lot of elbow grease Use the roughest wash cloth or toothbrush you can find. Use the highest concentration of alcohol possible. Sometimes you have to ask the pharmacist. Good luck.

Hi Christy

What did the trick for us is to use a high % alcohol. I think in

our case it was like 94% or so. The pharmacy usually has them in

the back, but you don't require an Rx for it. Good luck

Thanks, . Kennedy is periodically sweating due to the fever mostly now, I think. I am using Baby Don't Cry shampoo and it does do a good job of keeping her head smelling fresh. I will just continue to scrub the fire out of that band. I hate that it smells like feet so early! Hopefully she will kick this virus soon and the sweating will decrease. Poor thing has been SO sick all weekend!

On a possitive note, I swear I am already seeing some rounding. It is awesome and really makes me feel like we made the right decision. Kennedy thinks it is fun now to tap herself in the head with her binky. She is still confused about what the baby in the mirror is wearing though. Hope all is well at your house!

Vons ( also owned by Safeway) grocery store makes 99%alcohol. It works better than the 91% and takes almost all the smell away!:) You could try that!

Our orthotist told us to wrap a washcloth around a finger, put alcohol on the washcloth and then scrape at the band with your fingernail rather than just wiping across it. We live in Houston and my son gets very hot. We have been in the band for 7 weeks and haven't ever had the slightest odor to his band.

Hope this helps!
