Hi Ron,

I just received your email about a new virus. I did as the email suggested

and sure enough it was there. I have deleted it to the recycle bin. Now

I'm computer illiterate and when it says that some programs won't be able to

run if deleted, is that a scare tactic? I'm forwarding your email to all in

my address book.

Thanks so very much,

Debbie Breiten

I never heard of this virus. I checked my computer as did other folks and

it's been sitting there since April of 1999. I have Mcaffee, that stays

updated almost daily and it still got through. I see below it got pass

norton also. I followed the directions below and found that it was there,

and now I've destroyed it. I urge all of you to check your computer since I

found it lying around in mine since April 1999. Let me know if you find it

also.

Thanks,

Ron

DELETE now, and as it says go to your recyle bin and delete it again and it's

gone. I'm going to send a link for free download called wormgaurd that is good

for 60 days as a trial verison and it already found a trojan worm on mine that

goes back to 4/99 again.

This is a hoax. That file sulfnbk.exe is a windows utility that's used to

restore long file names. This came directly off of symantecs website.

http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/sulfnbk.exe.warning.html

You can go here and read it for yourself.

Have a nice day!!

I did the scan and found it as well. I have had it stored since 4/99. I even

reformatted my computer 2 months ago and somehow it was still there.

thanks for the information.

Hi Folks...

I was sent this same note from another friend a week to two ago. He later

received information that it was a hoax ...after many had deleted the file.

Come to find out it was a necessary file. So please check BEFORE you delete.

Except that this email is a HOAX. The file in question is a DOS utility

that ships with windows to handle the backup of long file names for old dos

apps that only understand the old 8.3 filenames.

While deleting it shouldn't hurt you if you only run windows apps, it's not

a virus, just a hoax.

Yes, it is a hoax. But you can simply restore your computer to a time

before you deleted the necessary file and it will be fixed. I have a Dell

and I went to the icon Dell Solutions and chose " fix my computer " . Restore

was one of the options. It was easy. A very good friend of mine, who I

considered pretty reliable, sent me an e-mail several months ago about this

virus that was sitting dormant and would become active on a certain day. I,

like a dummy, followed the directions and deleted it. What the file

actuallly allowed you to do was to save a file with >8 characters. It never

really caused me any problems until I tried to download The ER/TRAUMA

Checkmate to my palm pilot. I was afraid to restore because I was afraid I

would lose stuff, but I didn't lose anything. Now my computer is working

fine. Good. Luck,

Wanda
