Guest guest
Hi there To be honest, I probably do think you need that second opinion, both from CT and Dr Panchal and the PT in person. The reason I say that is it sounds like your ped isn't anti-band at all, but unclear whether it can help in this instance. You need to clear up the matter of whether the band will help given there is no flat spot at the back or whether indeed your child has plagio at all. The reason the band helps with ear misalignment is that the front bossing and back flat bit both grow out during treatment and this helps even up the look of the head and the ears. I'm unsure, if there is nothing really to grow out, how this will help ear asymmetry. Also- I do think that intero-uterine plagio is harder to correct than positional plagio, so they would have to factor this in when making a recommendation. CT will know if they can help. I have read on this site before that often tort babies have asymmetry due to the tort especially cheek and eye asymmetry which can be corrected through OT. Have you checked out the tort board at for more info on this? It sounds to me like your ped is certainly right to suggest OT in this instance. Whether you also can get any benefit of a band as well is not clear at the moment, I think you need more information. But don't be disheartened. It sounds like these professionals are taking your concerns seriously and recommending treatments as appropriate. You have luckily got in there early and I'm sure that your daughter will get the treatment that she needs. Guest guest
Hi there I also meant to say I think you probably need a scan to rule out anything else if your little one doesn't have the classic plagio shape. It is always better to have one done to put your mind at rest. Good luck Hannah (mum to Lucia, London, UK) Cranio grad > > > > > > > > > > I have read that a prescription is needed to get a DOC band. > > Is > > > > that > > > > > entirely true? Guest guest
Hi Dara, My docs weren't too keen on writing me a script either, I was told it would round out on it's own. When I took to CT for an evaluation they took pics, and wrote a report. They Fed Ex'd it to my pediatrician who upon seeing the pictures and report promptly wrote me a script!! When it comes to banding and OUR babies,it's our decision to make. It's not a decision for our pediatricians to make. They don't have the right to tell us no, we can't band our children. Keep pushing for that script, don't give up. > > > > > > > > > > I have read that a prescription is needed to get a DOC band. > > Is > > > > that > > > > > entirely true? Guest guest
Hello Dara I also think that the CT consult is a good idea. If they also think that Jack could benefit from a band than you can take this back to your ped. Don't give up. Some peds just take longer to come around.
