Please take a moment to introduce yourself & share a >>bit about where you are on this journey. I just wanted to let everyone know that I am NOT new.. ha ha ha.. I had to change email addresses and I guess the list thinks you are new when you do that even though I used my same acct. I am Cheryl previously cherylb@.... Now with my own Web/mail servers here at home so I am now cheryl@... While I am here I guess I will update my status. I have had my physical (cholesterol a little high but otherwise fine physical). Had a mamogram and that showed nothing bad going on. Had an echo (cuase I was on phen/fen we figured since I was going to have surgury we might as well make sure there is no problem there) and that came out a okay. Had my appt with the nutritionist and my 1st of 2 appts with the psychologist. Have my second appt on the 15th and than it is just wait for Dr to see me and schedule my surgury. The Psychologist said I might make it in in August. I hope so. If you are bored and want to see my web page as I build it you can check in every once in awhile at www.BriarRd.com. Nothing much there now but am working on it. Ta ta for now

Guest guest
Welcome to the group Natasja, although I'm sorry you have reason to be here. Glad you found us. There are quite a few members here who have developed Asherman's as a result of C-section so if that is indeed the cause of yours you are in good company! What are your treatment plans? Do you have any yet? Gwen
Guest guest
Hello Gwen, Thank you for your welcome in to this group. Yes I'am glad I found this group. Well about the treatment plans. We are busy to getting children since 1,5 years now. And since April this year, I heared I have the Ashermans Syndrome as a result of the C-section. Guest guest
Natasja: Good luck on the 20th and let us know how your appointment goes. We too have been trying to have another child for over a year and a half now...(we started " trying " in December of 1999) and I finally got my diagnosis of Asherman's in July of last year so I've been going through different treatments for this for almost a year!! Hang in there....and keep us up-to-date when you can! Gwen
Guest guest
Hi Gwen and others, I'll keep you up to date if I can, but you're 1 year further in different treatments than me. Tell me what kind of treatments you have, if you would like...thnx Natasja > Natasja: > > Good luck on the 20th and let us know how your appointment goes. Guest guest
Welcome to the group Carol. Another story that is so very simlar to the rest of ours. I have Asherman's as a result of retained placenta at the birth of my 3-year old. Never had periods after D & C and was told not to worry about it for 2 years.....finally we started trying for #2 and still no period and no luck and in July of 2000 was finally diagnosed with Asherman's. The good news is that despite the fact that my scarring was extensive and so severe I had " no uterine cavity left " , I have had surgery with an " A " list doctor and am now fairly certain that I am scar-free and we will be ready to try to conceive again. I cannot stress enough the importance of getting to the right doctor ASAP. Please DO NOT let a doctor (even a good one) operate on your uterus unless they SPECIALIZE in Asherman's. It is a very delicate and difficult surgery to do correctly. Hang in there, I was once just as scared as you....and now I have hope where I used to have only fear. Guest guest
: Welcome. Well, actually, the fact that you are having cyclical pain is a very good sign. It means that somewhere in there you have some functional endometrial lining left. The fact that it is causing you such severe pain, however, is also a pretty good indication that you may have endometriosis caused by Asherman's. If the scarring in your uterus is blocking the cervix " shut " then the menstrual flow has nowhere to go each month but " back " and it is often flushed out of the falloppian tubes and empties into the abdominal cavity. This can lead to endometriosis which is when adhesions grow on the OUTSIDE of the uterus and/or ovaries and it can be extremely painful. You need to be LOUD AND DEMANDING and make sure that you get some help. Have you had a hysterosalpingogram? If not, you should as it will show you where your scarring is. THEN you need to see the best surgeon you can....(check out the " A " list on the website for the best referrals). Hang in there, I'm sorry you are in so much pain and hope you get help very soon! Guest guest
Carol, Sorry you have to be here. It is good that you are going to a specialist, is he someone from the A list? We all understand your nervousness and being scared. Now that you know what you're dealing with, hopefully it won't be so frightening and you can get your scarring/adhesions taken care of. Good luck. Guest guest
, I'm sorry that you have found that you have Ashermans, but it's good that you're heading in the right direction to having it fixed. It sounds like you may be experiencing back-bleeding. Some of the women here have had that when their cervix was scarred shut. Have you checked out the listing of A doctors? That might be your best course of action for treating Ashermans. Good luck to you. Lee Ann
Guest guest
Hi Carol Just wanted to send a welcome note to you as well. I have been diagnosed with ashermans fairly recently myself after delivering our stillborn daughter and a nasty D & C. It is such terrible news but also good to know what you are dealing with and this is a great place to find out what to do about it. I have found it useful to read back and figure out what this syndrome is and what people have found to work. I hope you get your questions answered. I found that when I first was diagnosed I dug and dug to find out any info. This is the best resource and I am glad you found it! It is nice to be supported both physically and emotionally! I'll check up with you again! Glenda
Guest guest
Hi Carol, Just wanted to add a welcome to this wonderful group. I am glad you found it! Sorry to you have AS as well. Guest guest
Welcome to the group Carol! We're glad to have you join us, although sorry you have reason to be here. Your circumstances are so similar to the rest of ours.....retained placenta, D & C...Asherman's. Just know there is hope! As for endometrium measurement, this can be assessed using an ultrasound, most often an intravaginal ultrasound. It is painless and quick and pretty accurate in determining the thickness and continuity of endometrium. Good luck at your appointment and ask LOTS of questions! Who are you seeing? Where do you live? Gwen
Guest guest
Amy..I'm assuming these questions were directed towards me. My status is that I'm in my 28th week of pregnancy. Currently on bedrest due to preterm contractions and cervical issues. It took 3 operative hysteroscopies/balloon placement, followed by 30 days of estrogen for each surgery. The second round of fertility shots allowed us to conceive--I had/have a lining issue now which is most of our problems after correction of AS. But, as you can see--it can be overcome. Oh, my Dr. that did the D & C referred me to the RE who performed the operative surgeries. cheryl >SO what is your status??? >Did you switch doctors?? >Just reading you say that my sign are good news makes me so happy!! Guest guest
Hello and welcome to the group. We've another Amy to add to the group. I go by Amy L and we have an Amy A, this could get really confusing. I know you will find as I have that the women in this group and a strong, caring and supportive bunch not to mention extremely well versed in the different issues surrounding Ashermans. I am sorry for everything you've had to endure. You've had too long to wait for diagnosis and I think you should definitely be having an HSG to look for adhesions in the uterus. Your story is remarkably like mine and many others in this group. I too had a D & C for a missed abortion at 11 weeks and my periods never returned. My gynecologist did the progesterone challenge just like yours and I did have cramps etc. right on time but did not bleed. When I had the HSG it clearly showed that uterus was blocked through the centre with scar tissue. The top of the uterus was fine and trying to have a period but since the lower half was blocked the blood was reabsorbed and there was some flowback through the tubes to the abdominal cavity. Amy, I think you definitely need to get another Dr. and have the HSG done as soon as possible (especially if age is a factor). Once the diagnosis is made then you can move to correcting the situation with a qualified doctor. I hope this helps. AmyL
Guest guest
, Hi, I have also just become a new member and I also live in London (most others appear to be from US). Where did you have your baby? Who's your obs? I'm going to have a hysteroscopy in October - my Ashermans was diagnosed fairly quickly - I saw a gynae in July but like you and everyone else, I am still gutted and in shock! My baby was born in December 2000 by caesarian section and I had retained placenta and two D & Cs!! I'm now seeing Dr Edmunds at the Hammersmith and Queen Charlotte - he's supposed to be an expert in the field - has anybody else heard of him? Guest guest
Hi Louiza My son was born at Kingston Hospital and delivered by a Mr who is also the doctor who treated me for the retained placenta and Ashermans. I think I trust him but I'm not absoluely sure, as he's the one that caused the Ashermans in the first place by not making sure all the placenta was out! I'm interested to see what you think of Dr Edmunds as it may well be that I decide to try and get a referral if he's an expert. Where was your baby born? Guest guest
, My baby was born at Barnet General. That's where I had my two D & Cs done also. Needless to say I won't ever be going back there again!! Once I find out exactly what's going on with my body, I intend to start suing them. I read on the Q & As that more than 5cm of retained placenta is gross negligence and I remember them telling me that there was 9cm left inside me - someone has to answer for this! I do think that you should see somebody who can answer all your questions - hopefully everything is okay with you now - but you need to know one way or the other. Maybe you should go back to your GP and see if they can refer you to someone (who is a specialist!). Best of luck Louiza PS I live in Whetstone. Guest guest
Hi Amy, My name is Carol and I just read your introduction. The time frame from your D & C to the diagnoses is about the same as mine. I have a healthy two year old. I had a " textbook " pregnancy, but I retained placenta after delivery. I got pregnant this past January. Had a D & C. It took my doc until July! to diagnose me with Asherman's. My medical history also was none, until now. I did find a doctor that seems to know his stuff. That is so important! Carol > > > > > > >
Guest guest
- Welcome to a WONDERFUL group of survivors- these ladies here have given me WAY more information and HOPE than any Dr I've ever seen- in fact they found my surgeon for me (after the first guy I saw wanted to do a hysterectomy!- Sounds like someone should have a look at your uterus- an HSG will tell them if there's any scarring left- and a mid cycle US can look at your lining- with your periods lighter than normal I'd be sure to have a thorough checking before you do get pg and possibly are subject to more problems- my thoughts and prayers are with you!!! Guest guest
Hi Zanna, We left the conference shortly after the breakfast and high tailed it home. No traffic so I was happy. I enjoyed the conference, and yes, your daughter is precious. Me and my dad enjoyed talking with her that first night. She has quite a story herself!! Really didn't get to talk to anyone in great detail. It was all a bit rushed, and being in the wheelchair I didn't get around to everyone like I normally would. We did meet alot of great people. Star and hubby from up North where really fun to sit with. It was a good experience for me, and even better for my dad. He really learned alot and enjoyed himself. Take care. Say hi to your daughter (forgot her name). Regards, Bill Greene Camarillo, CA PM New Member > Hi everyone! > My name is Zanna Hall.
