Guest guest
I'm new here and have been reading the informative posts which are really helpful. Wondering if some of you knowledgable and experienced people have any advice for me. I'm getting really down about my situation. I was dx with hypothyroid (autoimmune), and have been on 1/2 grain Armour for about a month. My doctor also put me on amino acids (Biobuilde, Endurapak), and is trying to start me on Iodoral (I tested low on iodine in a 24hr urine test). My problem is that I don't seem to be able to raise any of my doses of these things beyond a very low starter level or i get a lot of what appear to be adrenal symptoms. Also, when I take the orthostatic blood pressure test, it comes out something like this: Reclining = 110/66 p=72 Standing up = 97/72 p=104 Standing, after ~1min. = 103/81 p=91 So, it drops about 13 points, pulse goes way up, but it does come back up about halfway. How bad is this? I just sent off an ASI test, but it'll take awhile to get that back. I started on Isocort, 1 tab 1x a day as Val here suggests. The first day, I hadn't read her suggestions yet, and I took another tablet later in the day. I seem to feel a bit more energized soon after I take the Isocort, but I start getting symptoms again in an hour or so. The licorice brew recommended by the Clymer Center people helps smooth that out a bit, but it's still bad. I can't really tell if the Isocort is helping, or making things worse. It always seems that I just seesaw between hypothyroid type fatigue (very apathetic, but still have a sense of humor) or adrenal type fatigue (low tolerance for anything, any activity, situations, irritability, and no sense of humor). I almost feel worse, due to this, since I started the Armour and other stuff. But probably not, I just can't tell anymore, i just feel awful all the time in different ways. Even slight exercise exhausts me. I get 'inflamed' feelings in my head at times, which coincide with a fogginess and extra fatigue, and like i have no energy at my core, if that makes sense. I've had many tests done which i could post if that helps, but these are the basics which stand out: T3 = 81 (ref:85-205) TSH = 8.97 (ref:.35-5.5) Thyroid peroxidase = 1506 (ref:0-34) Antinuclear Antibodies Di = 202 (ref:0-99) WBC = 3.8 (ref:4.0-10.5) Homocysteine, P = 4.5 (ref:5-12) Serum creatine = .2 (ref:.3-.9) low in lots of amino acids I've been getting worse and worse for about 7 years now, and it has been attributed to depression and menopause by (former) doctors. I had a big " crash' in February, when it became very apparent that this was more than they thought, and I haven't been able to work since then, or do much of anything. My activity is more and more restricted by my condition. I barely leave the house except for doctor and dentist visits, and a weekly shopping trip to the local health food store (which wears me out). I'm also mercury poisoned, from amalgams, which i've had removed (safely) and I would like to chelate, but that too, taxes my adrenals. Mercury may very well be at the bottom of this whole thing, but I can't get rid of it due to adrenal exhaustion. Catch 22. Does anyone have any advice for me, in regard to balancing the adrenal/thyroid thing? So I can increase my armou, etcr dose? One thing that would be very helpful is if I could really understand what symptoms come from low and high cortisol, what symptoms mean too much or too little Isocort vs. Armour. This whole thing is so complex, it seems the key is to understand how what one feels relates to what is going on in the body. any help appreciated, NJ
Guest guest
The symptoms of low & high cortisl are SO similar as to be literally indistinguishable, which is why I really encourage testing before starting adrneal meds. I would keep with the isocort till you get yoiur saliva rsults back but it certainly sounds as if you need HC and that is what it wil take for you to be able to tolerate thyrid and the other meds better. -- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/
