Greetings Everyone,

I was informed of your list by my best friend Tulips..........she has

introduced me to your world of soaping. I am very new to this, as I have not

made

my 1st batch of soap yet. I was invited to Tulip's home a couple of weeks ago,

and

thats where I 1st got to lend a hand in this fun and unique craft. I am a

single

Mom, and have a 14 year old daughter who seems to be as excited as myself to get

started creating. I also have a wonderful SO who has been very supportive of

me,

and has tagged along all this past week searching for things I need to get

going..

*Thanks to Tulips for the info* I bought my first kit of M & P from wal-mart this

past week, and am hoping this weekend I will take the plunge. *nervously* I

also

ordered my 1st 3 books on this wonderful craft...............should be arriving

today...............am anxiously peering out my windows for the UPS man to come

sliding down my driveway. Sliding U ask? I am from Minnesota..............and

we

have had a nice Jan. thaw..........but with that comes ice and rain. I am also

an

avid avian enthusiast, and very involved with clubs and organizations to promote

the

continued existence, and increase the numbers of these lovely creatures in their

natural habitat. " Oops, I'm sorry, I forget not everyone knows what avian

is.................pertains to birds. I own (9)...................yes, thats

correct....(9).........charming and wonderful parrots.

I guess one reason I am a little skeptical about this craft is that

birds are highly sensitive to toxic fumes, and can be very life theatening. So

please, if anyone has any information as to how, or if it could affect my

guys.............I would love to know.

I am sure once my books arrive.................I will be able to determine what

I

can use and what I can't in this wonderful craft.

I am *crossing fingers* that they won't prevent me from becoming a soaper.

Looking forward to getting to know all of you

and................*soaking up* *giggle* all of the info I can.

Hi Cheryl! You made it! Whoo-hoo!

I wouldn't worry about the scent with the birdies but maybe someone knows

more than I about that. The biggest concern would be the smell when the lye

hits the water ~ open your window a crack and do it in your sink. The smell

will disappear pretty quickly.

BTW, group. This is my buddie and, as she said, a recent convert to

soaping. She doesn't dream soap yet but I'm sure that will come. *L*

Thanks for the warm welcome on this new list. As far as dreaming

feeling about this, and I haven't even made my 1st batch yet! *S*

BTW............ Guess what came today? I have had my nose in these books since

I was told that you should always, always, combine the lye and water out of

doors.

I've never combined them outside. I've always done it in my kitchen sink.

I just make sure to add the lye to the water and not the other way around.

I also avert my head once the lye is poured in because sometimes you get a

bit of an " up draft " . It goes away quickly, tho.

I leave the lye/water pitcher in my sink until I pour it. That way if the

lye eats through my plastic pitcher, I don't have to worry about.

My 2 cents worth...

Hello:

I just got on this list and figured I would do my introduction right away!

I live in Cordova, TN. I am married to a wonderful man () and am a stay

at home mom to a beautiful 3 year old boy (Jakob) and my cat (Waldo).

I started making M & P and bath items for Christmas, and now I'm hooked! I am

on ALL (OK most) of the lists, and now don't have TIME to make soap...I can

only read about it!! Someday I hope to make CP soap, but as of now, I am a

klutz, my son is a klutz, my cat is a klutz (we won't mention my DH)...so I

think I'll wait until I get a little more graceful (LOLOL)

I am looking forward to learning (and contributing what I can) to this list!
