Dear Forum

Greetings from Uijain !

We are glad to report that we have a new Community Care Centre (CCC) in Uijain.

But we are noticing some new developments since the CCC was opened in Ujjain.

It appears that many people had many prejudices and misinformation regarding

this new initiative as many are note aware of the scope of an initiative like

CCC.

To make a CCC successful, we need advocacy with NGOs and GOs. It is essential to

make some additional provisions in CCC project for educational and advocacy.

Many people consider CCC as a hospital. But, CCC is not a hospital and people

are not willing to accept this. In state like MP, many people are illiterate

and 70 % of the populations are living in villages, where people always

consider any person associated with medicine and care are considered as

'Doctor' and any institution giving care is considered as hospital.

Because of this differential expectations, there is a danger of running a CCC

within the current guidelines may loose the spirit of real care.

Those who are running CCC should be careful about the nature of the disease

and it is not a disease but a person with low immunity suffering from

different diseases. In MP villages people doest have the facility to travel and

even they don’t have the facility for some of the basic OI treatment.

To make a CCC successful in providing care for People living with HIV/AIDS,

networking with grass root level health workers is essential. Before

establishing more CCCs in other parts of country about how to deal with the

differential expectations on CCC. There must be provision for grater networking

with the village level primary health care service people.

If we want to give care to people then we should keep in mind that we are

running CCC not just for the sake of running yet another project, but to

offer care and support for people living with HIV/AIDS
