Breakthrough Pain Meds

Hi everyone!

Been a while since I posted, but have been steady reading up and following

everyone. I have a question that hopefully someone can throw me a suggestion.

I take one 15mg Morphine ER every eight hours and have Oxycodone 15mg that I can

take one twice daily for breakthrough pain for over a year now. I cannot stand

the Oxycodone as it makes me very sick and frankly would rather stand the pain

until the next morphine.

I requested my pain management doctor to step me down and so he is weaning me

off of it which is fine with me. But, the problem is that I still cannot

control my pain effectively just on the Morphine at night when I try to sleep.

My plan is to see if he will give me the ability to take 30mg at night and stay

with the 15mg during the day as I have to work and I can tolerate and function

well enough with that. He originally wanted to give me Instant Release Morphine

for breakthrough pain but in Florida it is impossible to get according to my

pharmacy.

Thanks to the drug overdoses/deaths and abuses in Florida, they have cracked

down on certain drugs and that is one of them. So, that being said, what other

drugs are available generically that could take the place of the Oxycodone for

breakthrough pain should I need it? I am not very up on this stuff and was

hoping someone would have a suggestion.

I know that there is some new stuff on the market but it isn't available

generically and is very expensive. I go back in two weeks so I am trying to

research my options. Thanks for your help.

Hope everyone has a good day.
