Guest guest
Hi Heidi, I can related to feeling to young for this: I'm 26 and live in Colorado and have been coping with vv since I was 23. I didn't find this group until a year after the onset---I think you'll find it really helpful in the beginning. This list is a fantastic well of not just support but information about various treatments, strategies for getting through the day-to-day, and research on vv and related diseases. The very first medication prescribed to me was clobetasol propionate *cream*. My personal experience with this steroid was not good---it made my entire vulvar area really red, inflamed, and felt like pins and needles. I went to a new doctor in Boulder who suggested the problem may have been that i was using clobetasol cream, which contains alcohol, and not clobetasol ointment. So I tried the ointment as prescribed, but saw no results. Other members would join me in cautioning you against using steroid treatment for extended periods of time, since they tend to thin the skin. Just a few common treatments/ideas you'll hear bandied about here: a low oxalate diet, biofeedback therapy, topical estrogen/Estrace treatment (what I'm using), tricyclic antidepressants (not used for their antidepressant qualities, but for pain control), antihistamines, Protopic, and other stuff. Cheers, Kirstyn
