Guest guest
That comment about it " not being your thyroid " comes from the 70's - you know the " gold standard " TSH came out in the sixties and they figured if you didn't meet their guidelines for being hypo then you were just plain " fat and lazy and ate too much and didn't exercise enough. " I remember it; it seemed like sort of a campaign to me; I wasn't even diagnosed yet, but I remember sighing and wondering why I it was I ate like my DH and kids and none of THEM gained weight; why I was so exhausted all the time; keeping up with the kids was a nightmare and why I was so irritable all the time and so sleep deprived? But of course, it " wasn't my thyroid " so of course it was me, or it was just " all in my head, dearie. " If I EVER hear that from a doctor again, I swear I will slug him/her! Modern medicine is way behind the times and is far from being truly modern. I still wish we could sue the you know what's big time in a huge class action law suit and call attention to this national; not even national - international disgrace. Okay, I am off my soapbox now, ggg. C.
Guest guest
, Hey, good to see you back. I check in occasionally but not as much as I would like, can't seem to find enough hours in the day!! Anyway, wanted to mention that in your search for doctors, you might try looking for a nutritionist. We lucked into an awesome doctor here in Houston for my daughter and I'm going to start seeing him also. He has done some metabolic and other testing on my daughter that we would never have been able to get done through her endo. Not sure if her endo would even know these types of tests are available. Quite valuable info and gives you a wealth of info on how everything in your body is working. Keeps everything in balance also regarding any type of supplements. I know one of the things that I've done in the past was to supplement calcium, for many years, without supplementing magnesium at all, which caused me some major problems. He's also extremely knowledgeable regarding detoxing and all the environmental crap we're all exposed to that the majority of the other doctors we've seen know nothing about. All of my daughter's Hashi's symptoms have disappeared with his suggestions and she does not have to take any thyroid meds currently. He is also a chiropractor and works with several mainstream physicians who can prescribe meds for his clients if needed. My interest is to stay off of any prescription meds if at possible, especially for my daughter. At any rate, hoping you find the answers you're looking for. Nutrition wise, I've found so far that basic is better. I do spend a lot of time cooking and baking from scratch but it's a lot easier than it sounds, it's just changing your habits and getting used to that change. I think we all have to find that balance and adopt the changes we can include in our lives. I've come to the conclusion that it's a constant learning curve. I feel so very fortunate to have found this doctor, but I'll tell you it was a long haul to get to this point. It took me over a year and half of constant researching to get here. I cannot even put into words how I felt the first visit I had with this doctor. For the first time since my daughter had been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, I slept well from the relief that I knew she was finally in the hands of someone who could not only help her but keep her as healthy as possible. I hope you can find the answers you're looking for!! Linn > > Hi , > > I've been sick with a bunch of " syndromes " (ugh) since 2000 and have made it a part-time job doing research to hopefully fine my answer. Just a few months ago I realized I was chasing my tail, that this is as about as good as it's going to get. What helped me is that my traditional-medicine loving husband came to me and said to me something like " you know you were at your best when you were self-treating...all you want a doc for is to hand off what you've already learned your body needs and let them monitor it. " This was HUGE for me. It really helped me come back here for example and re-order the HC and not be afriad to go ahead and take it. Guest guest
Hi Linn, Glad to hear the good news about you and your daughter! I've been keeping you both in my thoughts and prayers for quite some time. I wrote to you a while back...wanted to tell you that the RBTI did not work for me. I think my body is just too sick for that kind of program. That's why I'm back here. My adrenals finally gave out. I will look for a nutritionist here locally. The probability of finding someone similar to your " dream team " is pretty unlikely, but you never know. Is there any particular criteria your nutritionist uses, or organization he/she belongs to that I could use as a starting point for my search??? My chiropractor was the one who referred me to the doc I mentioned in an early post who is willing to monitor me while I self-treat. Believe me this is a HUGE improvement from prior experiences. I did find three really good cook books just for vegetables, too. And I'm waiting for results from a blood test to determine if I have Celiac, so gluten may still be a problem. Again, it is SO GOOD to hear of your success! You're an awesome mom and I'm sure your daughter has a much better chance of enjoying her life as a healthy woman with a dedicated mom such as yourself! Guest guest
Linn, Great, thanks much. I looked yesterday and a lot of chiropractors showed up under the nutritionist heading and I don't think that's what I'm looking for.
