Guest guest
Hi gang - I just wanted to let you know what an interesting day I had yesterday. I was invited to the Springville High School (where I live) to listen to Jacquie Gordon speak. She is the Author of a fictional book about her daughter (who had CF). I read the book about a year ago and was extremely impressed. Almost all of it is based on true accounts of her daughter's experiences and her life with CF. She has been dead for 18 years and the book is still very popular with the high school students. They have been using it in English class to study how to write a book. Jacquie is now teaching writing 1 day a week in Greenwich, Conn., at the college level. She is currently in the process of her third book. She used 's 10 journal's for her accounts of hospital visits, dating, family anger and frustration... WOW! I got to see them. She was dedicated to writing down her life experiences. I was able to make it through almost the whole session without crying. Then my friend, who has a daughter w/CF, broke down and it was WATERWORKS for me! I then was invited to lunch with the author, the librarian, the English teacher whose class read and discussed the book, and the school principal (who picked up the bill! Cool!). Have any of you ever read it? ((((((((((((((Hugs to all))))))))))))))) Kathy G. (Mommy to 1 CFer and 1 terrible two!)
Guest guest
Hi Kathy, Yes I have read that book several years ago and just recently gave it to my daughter to read (she is 16 now). I am not sure if ever read it, some things like that she doesn't like to read about, that is the way she is, but I have reread it a few times and I think it is about the best book written on CF that I have ever had the chance to read. It is very realistic and well written. I have read several books on CF including " the life of a child " and Give me one wish is my favorite. I wish I could have been there too! thanks for telling us about it! love, Mom of age 16 w/CF and Nick age 18 no CF Orange Ca, USA

Guest guest
Dona - The book Give me One Wish is in a lot of libraries, however sadly it is out of print. l think your best bet is a High School library. It is about teens growing into adulthood. It super popular with the kids. Also, be warned Jacquie believes her book is plagiarized in the book Time to Mourn. Best wishes. Kathy G. Guest guest
Kathy, I never heard of the book called " time to mourn " Is it about CF also? that is really weird if it is plagerized. I was going to mention that I have gotten several out of print books from amazon.com, they have a search for out-of -print books and it has worked well for me. just thought I'd mention it, love, A sucker for books about CF Re: Give me One Wish > Dona - The book Give me One Wish is in a lot of libraries, however sadly it > is out of print. l think your best bet is a High School library. Guest guest
- Thanks! I think I'll look for it on Amazon. Time to Mourn is a book about CF too. It plagiarizes Jacquie's book terribly. She may end up in a law suite. Kathy G.
