Guest guest
Well, honestly, I cheated. I looked it up on the net. Although I do remember the song well. As long as we're going over the good ole' days, anyone remember a TV show in the late '70s called " 240- " with Mark Harmon? --- Bledsoe wrote: > Aha: > > Maybe I'm not losing it after all. Guest guest
All the Bloodrock albums are available on CDs at one or two of the more popular " buy it online " places (Amazon, etc.). Didn't realize they had seven until I looked. Know I wore out several of them back " then " . Guest guest
Steve, All correspondents on here who refer to anybody else as " old " are required to state their ages and provide proof thereof through at least two documents. Yeah, I'm OLD. I'm so damn OLD and DECREPIT I just spent a month running up and down ruins in Thailand and Cambodia in 95 degree heat and 100% humidity, scuba diving, snorkeling, riding elephants and river and sea kayaking. Yeah, I saw MJ & S when it first came out and drove a Buick Stationwagon ambulance. It would go 130, but the lights dimmed when you hit the Q. Yee Haw, Rock & Roll! Eat your hearts out, kids!!! Guest guest
I remember a contest as to how fast we could go through the toll booths on the old Dallas/Forth Worth tollroad. I remember taking a Modulance through there in excess of 90 mph and sucking every single punch card out of the booth. Yeah, we got in trouble....until the next shift. Guest guest
You are a mess, Gene. A song is coming to mind right now " I don't need your rocking chair, your geritol, or you medicare- I still have blood in my veins, and this grey hair dont mean a thing.... " ( - " I don't need your rocking chair " )..... I won't refer to ya'll as old... just a bit older than me :-) I think we need an EMS museum here in Texas..... Put some of these " old " style ambulances on display with younger looking wax figures of the Gene Gandy's, Dr. Bledsoe's etc of the day that worked on them............ Just a thought... Make us relive history........... I would love to have seen you guys back " in the day " ........ I can only imagine what ya'll did! Guest guest
Don't take offense Gene....I would never call someone " old " if I wasn't in the same demographic! I'm right there with you and Bob and also saw (or lived) MJ & S when it first came out. The only difference in the movie and the company I worked for, was our " radio system " was a row of dimes taped to the dashboard to use in case you got lost (yes kids you could make a phone call with a dime back then). The problem was that if you ever needed to stop and make a call the adhesive from the tape kept the coin from dropping into the phone. It was better to not get lost. Guest guest
I'm not as old as some of the folks on this list, but after 22 years of this, I believe I rate the title of " EMS Geezer " as well! 8^) half-rings... remember them well, hate them with a passion! Cadillac ambulances... smoothest riding and fastest rig I ever rode on drove! I never worked in Dallas, but does anybody here remember the Volunteer Mercy Corps (Ramsom Bill) or Chuck Curtis? Guest guest
Have to admit I do know who Chuck Curtis is/was actually worked for Chuck Curtis for a whole week one time when the company moved to dallas hmmm must have been in about 1986 or so. They had the ME contract in Dallas at that time which required at least one EMT-B on the truck that transported the deceased to the ME's office at Parkland. Being that I'm a relative newcomer to EMS having started in 1981 I was lucky in the first ambulance I rode was 1976 Chevy Suburban High Top though our back up unit was a 1969 ( I think) Caddy. Wasn't long after that we moved way up and started working out of a Ford Low Top Van with home made cabinets (wooden). That was after the Service moved out of the Nursing home, which had been providing all ambulance responses. Thanks for bringing back memories of the good old days. Mark NREMT-P Lic. Guest guest
Barry, I'm not sure that " EMS Geezer " is an honorable title. Perhaps, it just means that we were too stupid, preoccupied or lazy to find another career - back when we were young enough to do so. Bob Kellow " Barry E. Guest guest
Okay, Bob. You're right, that is a little tacky. This was the only career that I found myself fully drawn to. I had originally started college to become a teacher, but I'd find myself waiting, bored and impatient, during lectures, praying for the Minitor on my hip to go off. How does the term : " Seasoned EMS Professional " grab you? 8^) Barry E. Guest guest
What about the ems-l list. Does it accept attachments and would it be appropriate to post the pictures there? Guest guest
I regretfully remember a guy named Carr that was around about the same time. I had the unfortunate pleasure of working for for him for about 1.5 weeks till I figured out I wasn't making a dime due to his shady buisness practices. My first job in EMS at the good old age of 18. Glad I got away from that deal as quick as I did. We definently had some winners running ambulance services back then.
