Guest guest
, For previous scans I always seem to have intestinal uptake and then get sent home with a laxative and have to come back the next day to re-scan. This time I was determined to avoid that so I loaded up on fresh fruit and high fiber food like shredded wheat for 3 days before the scan. It definitely worked. I couldn't stay out of the bathroom yesterday! I made sure I drank lots of water and I live on coffee so I was basically pouring water through my body from what the evidence showed in the toilet bowl LOL (Yuck, I know, to discuss such things, but hopefully helpful from someone somewhere LOL more). I did drink a cup of coffee on the drive to the hospital as I couldn't remember if I was supposed to be empty stomach or not (they didn't give me any instructions at all this time!) and I figured one cup of coffee wouldn't hurt anything, so I ended up visiting the restroom twice before my scan and once in the middle LOL (after body scan, before neck-only scan, not middle of the body scan of course). The weird thing about this is I really expected to have a less bright scan because of the thyrogen resulting in probably a lower TSH than going hypo would give me (I always end up in the 120s when I go hypo). They usually scan with 4-5 mCi at my hospital even with a hypo scan, so the dose wasn't higher than usual. It was just so strange to see the whole torso so bright instead of the usual dark and light spots I'm used to seeing. My same old neck spot was there and looked like it always does, though it did seem more obvious than last year. All I can think is some organ in my abdomen grabbed up a lot of the I131 and it must be something pretty central since the brightness encompassed the whole upper part of the abdomen. It was like breast level down to the top of the bladder because you could see the bladder clearly as a separate circle below. I'm not real happy with my LID choices so I haven't really been eating much (I've lost four pounds in the past 10 days). I've been living on fruit, veggies, baked potatoes with olive oil, and dry shredded wheat with the occasional peanuts and homemade chocolate. Nothing that would take very long to go through the old GI tract. I'm going to try to keep pushing the water and of course will keep up my usual 6-8 cups of coffee routine over the weekend and make sure I eat super light Sunday and see how it goes. I don't have my Tg back, of course, since I just had it drawn today, but my suppressed Tg back in March was just barely detectable at 1.0 ng/ml, although that was the first time it's ever been detectable on or off meds. I scoured the archives and didn't see anyone else mentioning their thyrogen scan being brighter so this has me really nervous. I'm probably getting myself worked up over nothing as I do every year. If something weird will happen to anyone medically it will happen to me LOL. Thanks for the advice/information. G.
