Guest guest
Oh , No way I can't believe the trauma you went through. How is the Van? Glad to hear you made it to the appointments anyway. What an experience. That is one for the Mito experience book. Hugs
Guest guest
hope the van's boo-boo isn't too great. The van is fine...a little black paint will patch it up nicely. It's only a van. did a great job under pressure. She didn't tell you that she had to back the van out of the parking garage with uninflated tires and three men on the bumper. I'm kinda glad I wasn't there to witness that. <smile> Alice

Guest guest
And to think...tomorrow you get to spend the day in jail. Now I left you something else to tell everyone. <grin> Mom (Alice)
Guest guest
I'm glad you have a good MDA clinic, but not that the van doesn't fit in the parking structure. I hope the van's boo-boo isn't too great. laurie > > Reply-To: > Date: Wed, 17 Jul 2002 20:48:37 -0700 (PDT) > To: > Subject: MDA Appt./our day- the good and the very UGLY!!! > > Well, Mom hasn't posted too much about our day yet, so > I have got to tell everyone what happened. > > We both had an appt. with the MDA Neuro here today- my > first since being in NM. Guest guest
Hi , If it makes you feel any better, my husband did exactly the same thing with our van in Minneapolis at the cochlear implant convention your mom and I went to last year! Fantastic to hear about good docs!! Yeah, Ruth MDA Appt./our day- the good and the very UGLY!!! Well, Mom hasn't posted too much about our day yet, so I have got to tell everyone what happened. We both had an appt. with the MDA Neuro here today- my first since being in NM. We took her van so that we could use her scooter. There is a lot of parking at the hospital but the handicapped parking that's close was full, so I told her I could drop her off. She decided to go with us and just ride her scooter. I entered the parking garage..... it read clearance 8' 6 " so I said great the van is 7' 6 " ...... I got around a corner and hit this thing that's hanging a good foot below the ceiling... I'm just like OK I better go slow.... so I go very slow when all of a sudden I hear the roof of the van and it's scraping on the beam that's on the ceiling. So, I get out and look and sure enough I had hit it and there was no way I was getting to the bottom without taking the top of the van off..... so I had another person get security.... they came down there and ended up almost completely flattening the tires so we'd be low enough. So I told mom to go and I'd get the van out. She did. At one point we had 3 men standing on the van for extra weight to make sure it made it under..... when I got to the top of the hill where that thing was hanging it says " clearance 7' " I just about died that I had not seen it. I was so freaked that I begged the security people to back it out for me, but they couldn't. Mom told me later she literally thought I was going to have a heart attack. OK- we finally get parked and I head in. Mom was registering and I finally registered. She went into her appt and a few minutes later they call me in. I saw the nurse and then the resident. I was so impressed with the resident. She actually had quite a bit of " mito " knowledge and was very willing and eager to listen and learn as much as I could tell her in that short amount of time. She did a neuro eval and noted that my left side is quite a bit weaker than my right. We talked about my headache, migraine and possible seizure activity I've been having lately. Then the doc came in. He is a new doc in the MDA clinic. Mom had come in at this point and she and I spent some time talking to this doctor. I was even more impressed with him than I was the resident if you can imagine that. He even knew that Depakoate in a Mito patient can be lethal and told me point blank to never let anyone put me on that (I already knew this but he's the first doc I've had tell me this other than Dr. Cohen). We talked about my issues and he decided it was time to up my Lamictal. All in all it went great. I'm very glad we have a wonderful MDA clinic full of medical professionals who actually willing to be educated, who will listen and actually treat you like a person!! __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Yes I agree ... I'm glad mom wasn't there to witness it as well. Laurie- there are some minor scratches on top. Dave got up on the ladder and checked it out. He said the scratch is a couple of feet long, but not bad at all. There's really no damage. Ruth- THe guy in the garage told me that what I did was nowhere near the worst they had seen. There was another person who came through in a brand new van and instead of slowing down or stopping when they realized they hit it they excelerated and literally made a l-shaped thing on their roof. I just couldn't believe someone could have done a worse job than I did. I was in such a hurry to make sure we got there on time- boy did we ever! :-) Yes, this goes into the mito book of experience!! All in all- my nerves were shook pretty bad up until a few hours ago- but the day went really well!! __________________________________________________
Guest guest
, The van is fine thank goodness. My husband checked it out when he met us at the gas station to help me put air back into the tires :-) I'm just glad there was no real damage to the van (it's mom's). __________________________________________________

Guest guest
, Sounds like the positive results of you medical visit out-weighed the van trouble. Hope you did not do too much damage to the van. I am so glad you and your family are back together again with your mom. Take care Sheila
