Guest guest
Well, We went in on Friday (Nov. 12) to get grant casted. I was prepared for something totally different from what we got (but not disappointed). Leah, our Orthotist pulled out a roll of what looked to be gauze, the sticky kind they wrap around your arm when you have donated blood except it was an off white color. She wound the wrap around the back of his head covering just about his eyebrows over his ears to the base of his head. When she was done wrapping it which took about a minute, she flattened it real tight around his head and pressed on it for about 3 or 4 minutes until it was very hard. Then she cut a slit on the side and popped it off. That was the entire casting process. It was real strange and neat stuff. No bath necessary. Other that the fact that his head was a bit sweaty and warm from her pressing and rubbing the wrap to make it flat, you wouldn't know anything had happened. He did scream, but mostly because she was touching his head.. He is really sensitive now from all the head and neck exercises we do for his Tort. and he gets upset when anyone holds his head for any length of time. We were told we could pick it up last week since it only took about 1 week to make, but we were on vacation and didn't get home until Saturday. So we went in today and got him fitted for his new helmet. We were told to have him wear it for 4 hours today 2 hrs on 2 off and 2 on again, then tomorrow for 6-8 hours on and off, gradually working up to 23 hours for the first 3-4 days. So far he has tried a few times to take it off, but overall, he doesn't seem to be too bothered by it. We'll see how long that lasts though, considering, when his sister got her glasses she was okay with it for the first week and then we couldn't keep them on her with out a fuss for more that 10 minutes at a time. At least this won't be as easy to get off. Thanks, Mom to Grant Plagio/Tort.

Guest guest
That's wonderful christine. I don't know what brand of band it is either. Please let us know how it's going and keep up the good work! Sue Colin F., 14 mos. STARband grad > Well, We went in on Friday (Nov. 12) to get grant casted. Guest guest
I don't know if the helmet has a name or not. It is one that Loma University Medical Center (LLUMC) Orthotics Department makes itself. I will be taking pictures of him soon to put in the group photo album. It usually takes me a while to actually put the pictures on the computer once I finally take them. We will probably be taking some holiday pictures that I'm sure will include him. It's funny, Grant doesn't seem to mind the helmet at all. However, his sisters don't seem to understand what this helmet thing is all about. Since neither of them are crawling yet and Grant is, he keeps crawling up to them and butting them with his helmet knocking them over. Then they sit (or lay) there trying to take it off for him. It is real funny to watch the expressions on the girls faces as they pull and slap at his helmet after they have been rammed by it.
