Guest guest
Laurie, I noticed you are from Toronto - do you know a good gynocologist in this area? Marnie
Guest guest
I'm confused why you wouldn't try the antidepressants given that they are for a physical problem. Nerves firing too frequently is definitely a physical problem, and providing a chemical " stop " for the nerves to not fire so frequently is definitely not trying to say it's a psychological problem! :-) But they do seem to have worked for some women. Personally, I've been doing biofeedback and physical therapy, antihistamines and estrogen cream, and I've seen a fair amount of improvement. I'd try _everything_ before sugery, because surgery is not reversible. But that's just MHO. > Hi! I am new!!! I am so glad to have found a way to actually find > other women out there like me who can't have sex or insert tampons, > or anything else that involves penetration!!! I should also mention that another doctor tried to > perscribe me and antidepressant and some nerve medicine to help block > the nerve reactants to touch around the vulvar area, but I knew that > my condition was not psychological in nature, but was purely > physical. Guest guest
Hi Jess!! I'm trying my 2nd type of anitdepressants now... I have already tried amitriptyline and am now trying nortriptline. I have pain with penetration (tampons, sex, whatever...). I didn't have any luck with the amitriptyline but haven't been taking the notriptline long enough to know if it's going to help yet. I have also been considering surgery and have heard mixed opinions on it... some people are very against it and some aren't. I had normal sexual activity for a few years with my one and only partner and then all of a sudden this just popped up out of nowhere. I've now been dealing with this for 2 years and have just gotten a proper diagnosis a couple of months ago. It's comforting to know that there are other women out there that have this problem too. I'm 24 years old and want my " normal " life back!! I know that antidepressant medications are actually used in fighting chronic pain of all sorts and are not strictly for psychological issues. You may have some luck on them... it's always worth a try. I have spoken with my doctor about going for a surgical consult and will set up an appointment next time I see him (April). I want to keep all options open... especially since nothing seems to be working... just going to the consult doesn't mean that I have to commit to it and I have read MANY studies that have said surgery has the highest success rate... you've just got to do your research first. Hope this helps! Laurie ) (Toronto, Canada)
Guest guest
Hi Marnie, I've only been to see 2 gynocologist's, one in Brampton, Dr. Senik, and one in Hamilton, Dr. Lamont at the Hamilton Health Sciences Centre. Dr. Lamont was a specialist and he seemed really great but told me that the amitriptyline was my last hope. Dr. Senik seems like a good doctor but didn't know what to do for me either after the topical creams he prescribed didn't work... I'm actually seeing a neurologist at Mt. Sinai hospital now. He's been the best at helping me so far, even though nothing has relieved my pain, he's had the most options to try... his name is Dr. Gordon (I got his name from Dr. Glazer in New York). You need a referral from your doctor and you have to fill out this huge survey to send to the hospital. It's a lengthy process but seems to be worth it. > Laurie, > I noticed you are from Toronto - do you know a good gynocologist in this > area? > Marnie
Guest guest
Funny thing - I was about to send an email recommending Dr. Gordon as someone to contact for the information requested. I presume that is Dr. Alan Gordon. He used to be a member of this list and comes back occasionally. Guest guest
Hi Before you decide to have a surgery make sure you do lots of research. That could be lots of other options that you should try first. I know you want to have normal sex for your wedding, but you might even end up with something worse than what you had before. Surgery is not for everybody. Lots of docs recommend it b/c thay do not what else to do. Talk to some ladies on the list Anja *Clipped & Edited for brevity by Moderator*
