Guest guest
Hi : Is hard to give advices about what you should do or you shouldn't when it is about our kids, I think that is a very delicated matter. How ever I will tell you what I would you if were up to me. I have head many stories about wonderfull ped that are not really into the plagio and just tell to the parents that don't worry, that wait and that will correct by itself later on. I have read a lot of documentation that proove that this condition doesn't correct by itself. In my case, I went to my ped and he refer me to the specialist in Dallas Children hospital and they send me to CT. Once my ped refered me to the specialist he was not involved what so ever in the process. So, this is what I would do. If my insurance cover my visit to the specialist, even if I don't have referal from my ped I would go straight to the specialis. I would find out forst a specialist that is familiar with plagiocephaly. And I think that they are good enough to determine righ away if she had tortucullis. If not, you can as a straigh question. They should be use to see babies with torticullis. In the other hand, If my insurance request referal from my ped to see an specialist in order to cover the expenses, I just would go to my ped and tell him that I want to see a specialist and I would ask if he can reccomend me someone familiar with plagiocephally. Hope this help. PLease keep us posted. Guest guest
Thanks Ivanne, What kind of specialist would we see? A plastic surgeon, neruosurgeon, orthotist? We don't need a referral in our state to see specialists that are in 'our network' Thanks...I wanted to know what others would do and you helped with just that! > Ok, > > I will call the pediatrician and ask about torticollis..what exactly > should I say?...while I LOVE our ped...the nurses are, well, a bit > b***hy with parents. Guest guest
Hi . Welcome to the group. I know what it’s like to have a pede with b*tchy nurses. When I was first dealing with my ’s plagio, I called the office between well-baby checkups and said I wanted to comein and see the dr because I was really concerned about her head. The nurse actually said, “well, there’s nothing she (the dr.) can do about it, so just keep your next appointment with her.” Nice, huh? Is it possible, when the nurse asks you why you want the appointment, for you to say that you would just rather discuss it with the dr? I have never tried that, but who knows. If you feel like you want another appointment to discuss plagio, then by all means that’s what you should do. Before you go, write down all your questions, and if you are like me, take printouts of all the things I found out about plagio at the time. Be well informed because unfortunately a lot of pediatricians are not. At Childrens Hospital of Pittsburgh there is a Craniofacial clinic. They deal with all manner of craniofacial issues, and they deal with a great number of plagio babies. That is where I had my appointment for ’s plagio consult. I cancelled my appointment however because I found repo to be working for me. Call Children’s switchboard and ask to be connected to the craniofacial clinic. They will transfer you. Then you can ask the girl there about making an appointment or any other questions you may have. I asked her if they saw many plagio babies and she is the one who told me they see a lot. I had 2 appointments that I cancelled. One of them was with a Dr. ph Losee (he’s the director of the clinic, the other was Dr. Ian Pollack (pediatric neurosurgeon. Check out this link. http://www.chp.edu/clinical/03a_cranio.php. Could it be that after all this time I have finally found a hometown girl in this group? There are a couple of us who have family in Pgh, but I seem to be the only one who lives here. Where are you located? Can’t wait to hear… Becky (’s mom) in Pgh, PA ----Original Message----- From: [mailto:brandy_muth@...] Sent: Sunday, September 26, 2004 3:40 PM Plagiocephaly Subject: more questions sorry! Guest guest
Hi , My son was seen by a Pediatric Craniofacial Surgery at the Dallas Children Hospital. After he prescribed him a DOC band then an Orthotis is taking care of the casting, the fitting and the checks up every two weeks. I'm not sure if is the same with everybody else.Let see what the other moms say. In the Craniofacial office a practitioner nurse tought me how to do the exercises for the toticullis and from then on I did them to by myself. They told me that I have the option also to go to a therapist and they reccomended me one but I prefered to do it myself and it worked out pretty good.
