Guest guest
Cari, ditto on the 'nsync and brittney spears. Kylie and I fight over which is the cutest 'nsync-er! To top it off, she has a karoeke (sp?) machine so we hear her singing all the time in her room!!!!!!!! Zanna

Guest guest
I will have to check out her new album and his wonderful voice. is so good and I loved his story about how he quit school at 16, took an engineering apprentice job and hated it. Was the class clown and never thought his voice would go anywhere. Oh was he wrong! Vicki
Guest guest
Vicki, I've never heard of him. I live in house with a 8 and 9 year old girls. I can tell you the words to every Backstreet Boy, N*Sync and Britney Spears Song. Not that I want to know them. is actually a big Matchbox 20 fan. Now there's a boy with good taste. Guest guest
my daughter is in junior high now and ours does not have a uniform but it is a very strict dress code. Although not too strict on enforcing it. If someone wears something inappropriate they wear it all day and then are told to not wear it again. When I was a kid you had to have your parent bring you something appropriate. I remember a kid in junior high wore a shirt that said 'disco sucks' and the teacher made him turn it inside out and wear it like that all day. My daughter wants to wear make up. She thinks that since 'all' her friends do, it is ok. I said 'really, do ALL your friends wear makeup?' she hung her head and said 'noooo'. I explained to her that that really wasnt' the point anyway. She is allowed to wear pink or clear lip gloss but that is it. But she is always testing me! We were in walmart yesterday adn she wanted to buy eyeshadow. I explained that she is not even allowed to wear it so why buy it. She said, oh only for play! No way!!!!!!! She still has a bunch of stuff from when she used to dance. They had to wear a lot on stage, so when her friends come over they play with it. Parents have to really be responsible for their kids. It all goes back to holding them accountable, etc........ Zanna
Guest guest
I agree about Brittney spears clothes but, what the kids don't realize is that those are stage clothes-costumes. Even the stuff she wears to the awards shows, she is still playing the part of an entertainer there too. It is also the parents responsibility to make sure a child knows that those are not normal, every day outfits. Don't get me wrong, she isn't making it easier for us parents and I wish she would tone it down just a tad!!!!!!!! it is hard shopping for school clothes though. Kylie does a pretty good job of picking stuff out that she know will be ok. I let her pick her own stuff but, I have the power of veto!!!!!!!!! Guest guest
I think Miss Spears knows that she is a role model and should take that responsibility more seriously. Although I guess she is really just making a statement and I should really be frustrated with the clothing industry. Yea, should probably be more upset with the clothing industry. We went shopping for pants on Friday and we had a very hard time finding clothes that mom and daughter could agree on. Guest guest
Dating? At 11?!!! oh my oh my! Kylie has a very good friend that is a boy. We know they both 'like' each other but they both are very much aware of our rules. We also know his family and have communicated with them and they are the same way we do! She told me she likes him and I talked with her about feelings and told her to just concentrate on being really good friends. One good thing, he lives in another city and visits his dad in our neighborhood only every other weekend. But his sister is always with them too and actually her and Kylie have become quite good friends also. My husband and I set rules and keep them firm but with a loving hand. I don't want her to ever feel like she can't come to me. Even when she told me she liked this boy, I was thinking 'oh, no! It's starting already!!' but after we talked I felt confident in her. She really cares about her grades and she talks about her faith a lot so I trust her. She really is a good girl. Zanna
Guest guest
Yeah, Our house seems to be the one that the kids hang out at too. I would rather have kylie here with her friends than somewhere where I can't see what is going on. She has one friend who I will only let stay here and Kylie doesn't go to their home. I feel better knowing what is going on. My husband comes home from work on Fridays a lot and says 'who's the other girl in Kylie's room!'. I can not believe your mom did that to you! Terrible!!! Guest guest
That is weird!!! This boy is so sweet! his name is Evy (short for Everett) I keep telling my husband that I wish it was 10 years later. He is so good to kylie. He used to walk down to the gradeschool and walk her home and carry her books. They were in 5th grade then. It was so cute and so innocent. Kylie is funny though, I talked to her about kissing and stuff and she is still at the 'oh, gross' stage. Let's hope she stays that way for some time!!!!! She only sees krissy (his sister) and Evy every other weekend when they visit his dad and step mom though. She does have a very good friendship with them though. I love having those kids around here though. They all come in and make themselves at home. I always tell all her friends that it is a 'help yourself' home. I don't wait on you. If you wnat a drink-get it. If you want a snack-get it! They make themselves so much at home, I sometimes get them mixed up with my own kids!!!!!!!!! I do love it though. I always wanted a lot of kids but we had so many problems. We lost 2 before Brody. also with my health, it would not be a good idea to have anymore. Would have loved about 4 kids though, so we just adopt all of kylies friends! Zanna
Guest guest
Zanna Well I can tell you from experience that when a parent allows their child to date that young and wear all the makeup... it might be cool in the begining but it won't be later. I went out on my first date at 12 yrs old. It was a set up date and when I saw the boy I ran for my room. He turned out to be 19 yrs old and in the Air Force. My mother assured me that going out with him was a GOOD thing.... her words were " It's about time you thought of getting married " ... OH PLEASE! I lost all respect for her on that night. Parents can do some very stupid things to their kids. Today it's even worse than when I was growing up. I don't think any child is mature enough to think correctly at any age before 16. And even that's stretching it. But, I allowed my daughter to grow and learn....she just couldn't wear makeup or date while she was growing....LOL After all my daughters friends realized they couldn't push me around and I was sticking to my rules.... I ended up with a houseful of teenagers who found out they could have fun without all the hoopla! I was like there second mom to them. Guest guest
Zanna, It is bizarre how our daughters lives parrallel each others! Shelby's best friend is a boy. His parents are divorced and his mother lives out of the school district but his father lives in the neighborhood one over from ours and they use the dad's address so he and Shelby attend the same school. They have been best buddies for 3 years. The boy's mom is getting remarried next month and her and her new husband will be moving into our neighborhood. He and Shelby are so excited that they will be able to see each other all the time. The boy also has a sister 2 years old and Shelby is good friends were her too. Both parents are wonderful and we have the same family rules. We think the world of this boy and are glad that Shelby has such a good friend. I don't think in this case we need to worry about the boyfriend/girlfriend thing. I fear in the future they may actually be attracted to the same boys, if you all catch my meaning. He is a great kid. How wierd is that, Zanna!? >From: wischic68@... >Reply-To: OurMyositis >To: OurMyositis >Subject: Re: Singer >Date: Sun, 21 Oct 2001 12:19:46 EDT > >Dating? At 11?!!! oh my oh my! Guest guest
Oh I can remember the pierced ear thing. I said NO WAY until she hit 16... Well, guess what the first thing she did at 16? You guessed it... she went out and got both ears pierced. A week later my daughter had golf ball ear lobes and we ended up in the emergency room. Doctor told her she would have to keep the studs out of her ears for a very long time. Well, needless to say... she wears NO ear rings at all to this very day. Guest guest
Hi Ann-Marie... The way I look at it is, a parents job is a full time effort. Not some discipline one day and none the next. Standing by the rules and saying NO when needed is part of being a parent. At the same time a parent must also know when to let go and allow the child to express his/her self... and to learn from it. By expression I don't mean the back talk either...can't handle that. As my daughter got older I found giving her three choices worked best for her. That way, I was actually out of the loop and it made her mind work as to the solution to her problem. She felt more mature and yet I was still there. She would really examine her three choice and the outcome of each one.... I truly feel for you teachers now. Take care, Vicki
Guest guest
My daughter is 11. At least you had gym shirts! We had gym suits. One piece. T-shirt material. Red on bottom and red and white horizontal stripes on top. They zipped up. They were so ugly!!!!! My daughter's school wont' let bra straps show either but they let the girls wear really tight clothes. I too, would rather see a girl wearing a bra than braless in a tight top. I picked her up from school one day, and a mom was walking in to pick up her child and the mom was wearing short shorts! Her cheeks were hanging out the bottom. and they wonder why kids want to wear that stuff. GROSS!!!! Zanna

Guest guest
I had to have a chat like that with one of the neighbor girls too. Kylie was at the pool with her friends and their parents and she was wearing a really cute bikini. On the way home, she just put her overalls on over it. This girl told her she looked like a slut. I can't imagine a 10 year old saying that to another 11 year old. I didn't know what 'slut' meant at 10. I explained to her that we don't speak like that at our house and she would not be able to play here anymore if she used inappropriate language. But I also did the same for her with another boy who said something racially inappropriate about her (she is african american-as are Kylie's other 2 best friends). I told him that our house knows no 'color' and we need to treat everyone as God intended. The same! I figure if they can't follow simple rules, they can go home! Our number one rule is 'always be nice-it really does matter'. Zanna
Guest guest
I call Kylie my baby girl too. She hates it too, but that's just too darn bad! She will always be my baby girl and she will always have place on my lap, no matter how big she is!!! My mother in law told her to get off my lap when she was 9 one time. I told her that my kids will sit on my lap until they are too big. She said she is too big. I said 'she will never be too big or too old!' For gosh sakes, my sister who is 31 still goes and sits on my dad's lap! Enjoy your baby girl, I know I do!!! Zanna

Guest guest
Hi Lynn, Shelby is 9 and is actually not very girly-girly. She wears jeans and T-shirts most of the time but she absolutely loves make-up. I have bought her those Bonne Bell clear lip glosses. They come in a chapstick tube and have neat flavors hoping that would suffice but she is a lipstick nut. I am often sending her back to the bathroom to " wash " her lips if we are leaving the house to go somewhere. Just wiping them with a tissue doesn't take it off her. She has to use soap and water. Very odd. All lipstick colors look great on her and all of them stick like glue. I should be so lucky. Guest guest
YUUUUUUUUUUUUUK! I have to admit though if I was really thin and had a 'cut' stomach, I may wear shirts that may just show a hint of belly! But I have never liked that short shorts look. And lace up skirts? Maybe for an after hours club but not for a mall!!! I do have to say though. There may be a Brittney Spears but there is also Mandy , Simpson, Hoku, Faith Hill, and a few more that I don't mind that my daughter loves. And my generation-we had Cher, Lauper, Boy , and Madonna in her more risque period. None of those influenced the way I dressed (well maybe cyndi Lauper and the neon and big hair!!!!) but we listened to all their music. I think if todays kids have the support and direction they need at home, they will see what is important. I do think they need to express themselves somewhat but with limits. Guess it is a matter of picking your battles!!!! ta ta for now! Zanna
