Guest guest
As long as you don't overuse them I think they are fine. My dd loved them. Part of the reason TV is bad for small children is the constant change which is overstimulating. The Baby Einstein videos are designed for small children so they are much slower paced and less likely to over load them. Guest guest
Hi there I'd watch them yourself and see what you think. I've taken a pretty relaxed stance on TV for my own daughter who is 12 months now- she watches the odd pre=schooler programme such as the Fimbles or BooBah. My mother brought me up terribly strictly with TV, only one programme a day, and that's when we knew we had one as they bought one when I was about five or six and hid it in the cupboard for a whole YEAR from us kids! I now watch more than anyone I know... The AAP does not recommend TV for the under-twos because there is a lack of research on what the effects might be of all that stimulation, and one study did find a link between TV and hyperactivity (the more TV, the more likely to be hyperactive), plus obesity. But in these studies it is sooo hard to know whether this is cause and effect- perhaps children who were more hyperactive as babies with poor attention spans were plonked in front of the TV by their poor parents who were finding it hard to cope. It doesn't take a rocket-scientist to work out that letting kids sit in front of the TV all day makes them larger, but then that isn't what you are thinking of doing anyway. I'd read the research and judge it yourself-plus think of people you know and parent well around you (you probably know loads of kids who as babies that watch the odd bit and who are neither hyperactive or obese). Also- your baby may not be that interested in the TV anyway- my daughter wasn't at that age (two min, then she'd throw herself out of any baby chair...) so it may not be the big deal you think it will. Even now, she has a better concentration on other activities, so she tends to watch the theme tune, then wander off to play happily with her bricks for half an hour. Though I think this will change as she becomes a toddler... I wouldn't worry about your friends- thank them profusely for the videos and say she loves them (don't you do that with all those other pressies you don't really like?!) I received some very politically incorrect videos from some Bulgarian friends who had brought their favourite childhood cartoons from the 70's for my daughter. I just thanked them for their very kind thought (which it was) and made a mental note to dispose them later! The point about getting her attention is a good one- she may, if interested, be motivated to look in one direction which could help with tort stretching. It all helps- but it won't be crucial, so if you decide not, I'm sure that you'll find something equally stimulating. Guest guest
I know this reply is very late, but I can't stress enough how much LOVES Baby Einstein videos. He is 9 months old now, but has been watching them since he was about 3 months. I hate cartoons, and the ones that I felt were ok, just didn't have ANY interest in. The Baby Einstein videos are unbelievable. They are so perfect. sits and just stares it the TV. Sometimes I talk to him about the video and he looks at me and smiles or laughs, and other times I just leave him by himself and he lays there on his side or sitting up watching them. OMG..if you haven't tried them already you have to!!! :-) Marcy and (9 months) in New Jersey 2 months in DOC band # 1 to correct mild assymetry Now in Doc band #2 to correct Brachycephaly > > For Christmas some friends gave set of the Baby Einstien > videos. is almost 4 months old. Guest guest
My daughter also loves the Baby Einstein movies. She really interacts with them as well. I think at your daughter's age they don't recomend going over 1/2hr a day. So that would be about one dvd a day.
