How did you fix the problem long term? Lori, Jennette Depending on your blockage or type, they sometimes wait. Relistor is an injection I have been given that causes the peristalsis to move the fecal material through the bowel. This has been effective for me. If I do not have a bowel movement in three days, I take an warm water enema to clear. You can be given softeners and laxatives but they stay away from this long term. Enemas are more effective and less invasive. I have lysis or scar tissue in my bowels and sometimes causes a specific blockage which can be cleared. Surgery is not always the answer and they do wait and use other options first to get the blockage open. Blockage can be caused by hardened fecal material which can be moved, it is not always a blockage of the bowel itself so having surgery now might not be the only option. Just an insight from someone that has been there with blockage. Long term is finding a diet and plan that keeps your bowels moving which might include a medical intervention. Do not let it go though as, unpleasant as it might seem, using enemas to keep myself from being blocked is a good option. Drink fluids also.
