Guest guest
Barbara, How wonderful!! Made me smile picturing your son, and then maybe my son doing the same thing someday! Thank you for sharing. , mom to 7, severe-profound loss, Siemens MUSICS bicros aids, first grade..., 5 and ph 2 P.S. Hope your university is doing better after those horrible murders. Must be hard for all that knew the professors. <<Also, my older, right handed, hoh son has ADHD! So at least in our house (sample size of two hoh/deaf kids) we disprove this theory. I have to share what a neat week we've had in our house - my 8 year old who's hoh did a class play yesterday and last night to the parents. Tommy is in our town's public elementary school and is fully mainstreamed. He's the only kid in second grade with hearing loss. Guess who was the " male lead " - Tommy! He did such a great job - I almost cried, I was so proud of him. He was PegLeg Joe - his second grade class is doing a biography unit and his classroom teacher, the art and music teachers had an enrichment grant for this project. It was an adaptation on a biography of Harriett Tubman and the book " Follow the drinking Gourd " . He even had a singing solo - wow. Those of you who know me from this list know what a tough road we've had with Tom - he was diagnosed late with his severe hearing loss (at 3, got his aids at 3-1/2); he repeated first grade since he was socially and chronologically very young, then we discovered he has ADHD - he's so come into his own last year and this year. I realize all this could change at any time, but for now I'm so enjoying it. He really loves school, is reading at a 7th grade level, and is thriving. Life is good! Just wanted to share. May they watch over those of us who continue to fight the dragon, and may they be waiting at the gates for those brothers and sisters that are also called home. ---------------------------------
