the only hearing aid that our insurance will cover is this one. I do not

remember the number but for some reason I want to say that it is the Oticon

Personic 400. I do not get choice in hearing aids for her so I have been

really interested in " seeing " what different types there are out there.

Vicki, did she tell you why you have such a limited range to choose from?

There are lots of other brands out there, especially for kids at the

mod/sev level -- ReSound, Widex, Oticon, Phonak, Siemens, and even some

like the AVR ImpaCt for kids with particular kinds of hearing losses.

My son has Phonak SonoForte 332AZs (similar to the Phonaks your audiologist

mentioned). They're analog programmable aids (not digital). I wonder why

she would recommend the SonoFortes rather than the Claros (except that the

Claros are more expensive...but they're newer technology, too).

Oticon makes a great hearing aid, too, a digital called the Digifocus II.

Consider, when you make a choice, how compatible the hearing aids you get

will be with an FM system (something like a MicroLink FM, which is made by

Phonak). Take into account whether or not they have dual mic technology

(the audiozooms do, and it works great for my son).

But the first question to ask, I guess, is why you're limited to only two

brands of hearing aids to choose from. Good luck!

We have Oticon Digifocus II aids for our 4 yr old We have had good luck with

them. Some moisture problems initially. But since getting the Dry n Store no

problem. The sound quality is good and the gain is sufficient for the severe

loss.

Our daughter wears Oticon's, but I am not sure what model they are. She has

been with us for one year (she is 10 and adopted from U.S.) and has only

consistently worn them for the one year she has been here. She is

profoundly deaf but is starting to acquire some language and speech, so they

must be some pretty powerful aids. They are different from the Resounds our

other deaf daughter (also adopted Guatemala) wears because they have a

volume control on them and the Resounds do not. The Oticon's must be some

pretty durable aids because our daughter is very irresponsible with them,

and they have not broken yet. (Incidentally, she has a C.I. surgery set for

March 23rd.)

My daughter wore Oticon 420's for five years. She got excellent benefit from

them. She loved the colors she could choose from. We needed new ones and went

with Phonak because they are compatible with the MicroLink FM system. She gets

the same benefit from those. You can trial different ones and see which ones

work the best for your daughter.

HEARING AID BRANDS

Our daughter received her first loaner hearing aid 2 weeks ago and her second

one yesterday. They are Oticon Personic 420 and 425 (only loaners). I have

not seen Oticon mentioned in any of the discussions since I have joined. We

will be getting a prescription for her own hearing aids in a few weeks. I

mentioned to our Audiology Services (The University of Tennessee) the Phonak

since I have seen so much talk about it. She said we could go with either

the Phonak Sona Forte 2P3AZ or an Oticon model (newer than the loaner). No

complaints about her hearing improvement and she loves them. (She is adopted

from Romania and is 5-1/2 with no language at all at this point.)

Does anyone have any experience with the Oticon. Thanks.
